Okay, i am making my own wedding cake, and im starting to think cupcakes and a small cutting cake are better, but i feel they will be more work. This is a backyard wedding so i definitely think its more practical and i love that i can do multiple flavors, and there is less chance for things to go...

This is a backyard wedding so i definitely think its more practical and i love that i can do multiple flavors, and there is less chance for things to go wrong vs stacking a 3 tier wedding cake. And i would need 100 cupcakes so THE WORK lol Anyone do cupcakes? Any suggestions?
Flavors im thinking of are banana pudding, strawberry shortcake, lemon drop, and salted caramel

We are going to get a small cake for us, on top of a tiered stand, and then have cupcakes in multiple flavors for the guests. We won’t be baking them ourselves, but I like the idea a lot because a) they are delicious 😋, b) more affordable, c) guests can grab and go as they please. There are really cute display ideas on Pinterest, and with a backyard wedding, I think that would work great! Maybe you can recruit a couple of friends to join you and bake the cupcakes in their own ovens, and then have a frosting/decorating party at your place. It would split up the baking time, and then you could probably get them decorated quickly with all hands on deck. Just a thought!

This is exactly what i want to do, the tier display with a small cake on top. And i think i am going to have someone help me, even if it just icing, or adding the filling, any extra set of hands will be great.

I’m doing a small red velvet cutting cake and then cupcakes for everyone else. My new mother in law is making the cake and possibly the cupcakes too.

If you do cupcakes, I’d suggest 2, maybe 3 flavors. Anything more than that is going to be impossible as a bride.

If you want cake, I would do sheet cake and one small cake round. You can use foam for bottom tiers, stacked, and then all decorated accordingly with real cake as top piece. Roll out the sheet cake slices for guests

You can also do flavors that can share the same frosting on top. Ie a cream cheese frosting could work with both a carrot cake and red velvet cupcakes.

I am doing a small cake for the bride and groom and cupcakes for everyone else. This way we can have multiple flavors for people to choose from. Our neighbor is making them all (200 cupcakes...) and we are using multiple houses ovens! Now only question is regular size or mini cupcakes?

I love this!! Im sure if i ask, some of my family will pitch in, i only need 100 cupcakes. I am thinking 1 full size cupcake for each person and there will be like 20 leftover for the cake lovers, but my family seems to think i need 2 per person! Lol

If your doing full size cupcakes I don't think you need 2 per person. Not everyone likes cake, and most people don't eat 2 full size cupcakes. I think 20 extra for a group of 80 is a great amount!

You could always do a fake cake (it's cheap and endless time to decorate and redecorate, and the pictures are amazing) with a small cut cake on top, then bake sheet cake in back you have a friend or college student cut, to save on labor on your end and do as many flavors as you desire. I couldn't imagine frosting so many cupcakes in that crunch time, plus unlike those little wraps everywhere vs a few tin pans.

I love the idea of a small two layer cake for the cutting part, and cupcakes for guests. cupcakes are super easy and self serve. Plus you can do a few different designs with cupcakes. This is the idea we chose to go with, but lovely Publix is going to be other baker. Because in the south, Publix has the best cakes. lol.

    Good luck hun.Smiley heart
