Cupcakes with no cutting cake

A.B., on September 21, 2021 at 4:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

We plan to do cupcakes and don't want to get a small cake because it kind of defeats the point of saving money and coordinating rentals.

Is anyone else doing this? Are you planning to cut a single cupcake/ feed each other a cupcake or are you just going to have the DJ announce that desert is ready?

You're not saving THAT much money but not having any sort of cutting cake... we did cupcakes and a small cake for us to cut from a bakery and the cake was $60. 5 dozen cupcakes were $180. Admittedly, $60 versus $3 for a single cupcake is a big difference. But in the scope of what a wedding costs it's small change.

I think it's up to you what you want to do, do you want that moment of the two of you feeding each other cake? If that doesn't appeal to you I'd just have the DJ announce the dessert table.

My cousin did just cupcakes and no cutting cake! For the cake cutting they just cut a cupcake. I think this is fine and it’s whatever you guys want to do

Yeah, it is true, that in a 10K budget, going $50-100 over isn't much. Part of it is a matter of the timeline of the day and keeping everything as simple as possible as well. Our ceremony starts at 4 and the reception ends at 10. I want to minimize all the "events" that have to be planned and items I need to ensure arrive so that I can breathe easier. Part of me wants the moment but part of me wants to skip it altogether.

I totally know how you feel, our ceremony starts around 6 and the reception ends at 11. When you see the timeline, it seems like an insane amount of little events to wrangle in a short amount of time. Since I ordered through a bakery that specializes in wedding cakes, they are going to handle all the delivery and setup... I just had to taste cake flavors and pick ones I want... we even went back for more flavors... honestly it was one of the easiest and most enjoyable parts of planning, the cheapest thing I booked, and the easiest vendor to get locked in and squared away. I think we're both going to be kind of awkward about the cake cutting (I already told him not to smash it in my face or experience Consequences) but it's such a classic wedding thing, I didn't even consider skipping it. Smiley shame

Same! I love our baker and she is setting up and delivering. For me, the moment is the first dance was really the only thing I couldn't think of skipping. To be honest, I'm already nervous about being in front of everyone.

Is it necessary that you actually “cut” anything at all? I think it’s perfectly fine to simply feed each other a bite of cupcake.

I personally think the feeding each other cake moment is a little cringe-y so maybe just skip it! If you do want it, cupcake is totally acceptable.

I think it's cute but feel like it would be off brand for us. I'm glad to hear both options are pretty common. Maybe we'll get a photo with us linking arms like you would shots are the club.
