Custom Made Wedding Gowns on Ebay

mizzy713, on December 29, 2009 at 6:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Anyone have any experience or know of anyone who has ordered custom-made bridal gowns from the international sellers on ebay? I found some great styles that I like and each is custom ordered to your measurements. Most are made and shipped from Hong Kong or China, but it's free shipping and you can get a brand new gown for less than $200! I'm seriously considering going this route, which means I need to order now, cuz it takes a couple of months to come in.

From what I've heard on other wedding boards, it's kind of a coin toss. Some people have been thrilled with their dresses and some have gotten a dress in the wrong size, the fabric was cheap or smelled weird, some couldn't get questions answered because the customer service people don't speak English. I'm not knocking your idea, I'm just suggesting you do a lot of research first.

I ordered from www.trustedeal.com and they are great. You could check my previous posts of me in the dress. I don't really trust these 10 bucks wedding dresses on ebay.

Share with you this coupon: cjf15%off to get 15% off the order. I got mine after first purchase. It expires on Jan 15th.

They are Chinese Sweatshop gowns, in person the quality or workmanship and materials is totally horrible and the fit no guarantee.

I've had to alter a few and they're a nightmare so be prepared for a complicated and expensive alterations bill if the dress is non-returnable!

Buy a Vintage or Unworn gown on ebay instead.

I ordered a custom made gown from Ebay on Dec 16th. I haven't received it yet, but i'm very excited about it. I went back and forth on if i should buy it or not. I even emailed a buyer that bought the same dress, that i found in the sellers feedback. She was happy with the one she received. In the end i decided that the $150 i spent on the online dress is a great deal if i'm totally happy with it. If I'm not happy with it, I not to sad about losing $150...i've lost more in a slot machine in Atlantic City once. I only ordered the dress online, because i knew that David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo didn't carry the style of dress i fell in love with.

I bought my dress on ebay from China and LOVED it. I didn't have to get any alterations. I had to get it steamed because they somehow fit it in a tiny box, but other than that it was great! Now I know that not all sellers are that great. Mine gave almost weekly updates and regularly sent pictures of the progress. They would change anything I didn't like. They finished my dress and i received it in like 2 months. It was gorgeous, and pretty good quality especially considering the price. I got a $900 dress for $300 with s/h. It is true that you have to pay it all upfront though. If you have any questions ask Smiley smile

Buyer Be Ware! I have had 3 experiences where the brides sent their measurements along with payment and received in 1 case a well sewn gown. Gown #2 arrived in badly sewn condition (it was really bad!) In both instances, the gowns did not fit properly. Payment was already made and these ladies had no recourse other than to purchase another gown.

Gown #3 was made in India and the claim was that the fabric was silk. It was satin and constructed badly. The amount spent on this dress was well over $800.00 & more spent on alterations.

If you decide to go this route, pleaseeeeee make certain that a professional has taken your measurements and that you know who you are dealing with (know who your contact person is.) Do not rely solely on an email address. A reputable company should provide a phone number and physical address as well and by all means ask for references.

Finally if going through all of this is still worth it to you then I wish you all the best,

    Gown Lady

I am buying my dress on ebay for $150. I worked for an ebay store for years so I am very comfortable with the idea. However there are some important steps to take. First off check their feedback rating. If it is less than 97% positive steer clear. Also check to make sure they have a good return policy. Finally communicate with them make sure they know what you want or they won't be able to give it to you.

You cant always verify the feedback n ebay becasue I hear some are false, but Buying through ebay and using paaypal does give you some recourse. Ive read that you can buy these dresses from overseas but what you read is true, its kinda 50/50/ The biggest complaints I heard are the fit, so make sure yo use their measurement chart. SOme do offer refunds but you have to order 6-12 months in advance. Your best bet would be to try oncewed or some other used dress sites because not only will you be gettin the real thing but a lot of times they will give you the dress and all of their accessories for free to. Plus you're helping regain som eof the money they lost. It works for everyone

I agree with Pumpkin, Seams and Bridal Cottage. I have altered many of these and they can be an awful nightmare. Also some say you can send it back for a refund - BUT - they give you 3 days - 1 to look at the dress and decide, and 2 to ship it "two Day" or "overnight". Very expensive to ship 2nd Day or Overnight to China.

If you do it make sure you know all the details, get PROFESSIONALY measured, and retain an open mind in regard to your expectations.

It depends on your expectations. If you think you will get the perfect dress, just like in the picture instead of paying $4000, you'll be disappointed. If you are looking for a nice dress that looks pretty close to the picture you should be fine. I have ordered a couple dresses (one wedding gown) and they were fairly well made.

One thing to be aware of is the fitting. Expect to pay another $250 locally for a formal fitting. It's difficult to get the measurements just right when you are sending them via e-mail.

Got mine on ebay for $139. Absolutely LOVE it! Go for it! If you do it early and something is wrong, they will fix it. I asked the seller a lot of questions before I ordered mine, and when I got it, I was impressed.

Just to clarify, if a gown is custom made then you should have a toile, mock up, made in calico first then several fittings until the fit is perfect. Only then is the dress fabric cut. What you are describing is made to measure which is different. I guess with these dresses it's the luck of the draw.

What Ann Guise Silk Wedding Veil is referring to is what we call a 'Muslin' in the US. It's literally a muslin cotton mock-up of your entire gown based on your measurements that is fit on you and eventually becomes your pattern for the real fabric. It's the Old School Couture way to make a gown a perfect fit and how we always do it at SEAMS Smiley smile

Don't trust a Custom Designer who doesnt' let you put your gown on in a 'Muslin' first! It's a great way to know if you're going to like that dress ON you before it's cut, sometimes Brides make big changes during a muslin fitting!

Hey mizzy713, i posted last week that i ordered a wedding dress on ebay that comes from China. I received my dress today, custom made to my measurements and i'm very, very happy with it. The quality of the dress is great and i rushed over to my moms house to have her lace my dress up on me so we could really see it on me. She's in love with the dress as well and is shocked that i only paid $150 for it. I'm very happy i took a gamble and ordered it online.

I agree with Miss SEAMS about the muslin dress. My FMIL is a professional seamstress and I would say I have at least a moderate sewing level, the two of us are making my dress along with that of the bridesmaids and the flower girl and before we even think about cutting the fabric for the dresses, we are not only taking measurements but making a sample gown out of cheap fabric just so we know how it will fit and what needs to be changed beforehand. Maybe you didn't measure just right and it's too tight in one area, or you don't like that extra little bit of fabric over your butt that makes it look bigger or maybe you decide that it really shouldn't be strapless, this sample or muslin dress is great for letting you perfect your dress before you get to the real thing and have to do the alterations on the expensive fabric.

Hi I got married last year and I ordered all my brides maids dresses from over sea. Milanoo.com, lightinthbox.com, onlygowns.com I was pleased with the dresses and the customer service rep were very helpful, I was able to speak with them on live chat my wedding gown also was made from china, but I dealt with a lady who actually do business with the company. I was pleased in the in we had some complications with the color because I didn't do Ivory or white and had a soft pink so the first dress came back white so they corrected it and I loved my dress. loved it.... if you want to see pictures or if it email me and I will give you the wedding website. Good luck.
