If you don't want him to walk you down the aisle, don't. You don't need to tell him anything. If he asks you directly, then say that you have thought about it, and since he has not been there for other major milestones in your and your family's life, it doesn't feel right for him to do so.

Be honest with him. You felt disappointed that he avoided your other important milestones so you have chosen someone else to walk you down the aisle.

Say something to the contrary in his presence, like "Im so excited for my kids to walk me down the aisle!". He'll get the hint.

So my dad and I have recently started reconnecting after a very large portion of my life was spent without him in it. It didn't feel right to have him walk me down the aisle, and my mom hates extra attention on her and made it pretty obvious she'd do it but would really rather not. My FH and I decided to walk each other down the aisle, since we'll be doing a first look, to avoid any potential drama with my dad.
