Daily countdown journal gift on wedding day?

LizzyC, on February 19, 2016 at 11:44 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

I know some ladies on here are keeping a countdown journal about their FH/W and giving it to them on the wedding day. I love that idea and am going to start at the 50 day mark (which is in like 4 days, holy shiiiitttttt).

I'm curious to hear what you are/would write in it each day? Is it something random that you love about the person, or are you relating it to a story about them from that day? I just don't want every day to be identical, so in case I run out of ideas I'm looking for a little content/topic brainstorming! Smiley smile

I lllooovvvveeeee journaling.... I don't think you should worry about it being the same each day. Your emotions and activities are going to be everywhere (in a good way). Just think when you look back at it a year or more from now you are going to be like OMG :-)

I did all different things. Some NWR and some WR. I used a tiny journal so they were short and sweet. Some examples:

*I was stressed today and went on a shopping spree at lunch. Instead of being mad you just laughed.

*Thanks for being the DD for my bach party

*I loved that you unclogged the shower drain and didn't complain even though it was my fault

*Thanks for taking care of our dog so I could get extra sleep this morning

*I was prepping wedding invites today and when you saw them, you got really excited and gave me the sweetest hug. Can't wait to marry you!

I did it for 99 days. There were some days that I didn't get to do it because he was home, or something, so I totally spent the night before the wedding filling in the blanks haha. I would go through our text convos to get ideas.

Those are good ideas, thanks Elyse!

Was this a surprise for your FH? Did anyone's FH do this for them too?

Yes! So I've been doing it since we got engaged, but not every day. Just periodically. I've been doing entries on some pages, then on other pages I write cute quotes and make it look fancy and fun. On other pages I'm putting pictures in. The pictures are mostly chronological, but not all of them are. So it's a mash up of a bunch of stuff but for my entries, if it's not something that we did that day or whatever, I've been making lists about things I love about him, things that he does that make me feel loved, etc. It's been really really fun to make it!!

Mine was a surprise, but he didn't do anything, not even a card :/

In talking to my friends, most guys don't know it's a thing to do a gift or note or card or something for the morning of the wedding. I didn't want a gift, but my subtle hinting at a note didn't work so I wish I would have been more straightforward with one of the GMs so they would have influenced him to do it lol.

Oh! I like this so much! I think I'll start at the 99 day mark. We are truck drivers and have a stupid amount of fun together. Never a dull moment in our house on wheels!!!

Oh I love the idea of including pictures too, thanks Elizabeth!!

Aww I'm sorry Elyse Smiley sad FH and I talked about gifts last night and we decided just on cards. I like the idea of adding the journal though.

The one I bought on amazon comes in a pack of three, so I'm debating whether or not to give him one or keep it a surprise...

It's never occurred to me to do this for our wedding, but I've done something similar twice. I kept a journal of our first few months together because I thought he might be special and gave it to him on our first Valentine's Day. From that day through all last year, I wrote him a post-it note every day with different color-coded categories including Moments and Memories, Quotes, Lyrics, Reasons I Love You, and Love is...(for example, love is...always taking the end slices of bread for sandwiches - which we both do when making them to spare the other from having to eat it or love is...never going to bed angry). He now has a 365 Days of Love jar on our counter. Every day when he gets home, he pulls one. He loves it and goes straight for the jar when he gets home. We're keeping the post-its stored in a binder.

I think I'm going to steal this, but starting at the 30 day mark.

I'm doing a one year journal...it's sort of scrapbook-ish. There's some pictures, dinner receipts, funny memories. I try and write in it everyday...but in reality I usually spend one day a week trying to catch up!!! I'm not writing novels in it...just a "I love you because" or "today you reminded me of why I love you when you...". I'm the first to say it's sappier maybe then I had originally imagined but it's pretty adorable!

I did something I was grateful to H for each day. Like

Today I screamed at you about seating arrangements and you didn't get mad at me (Lol hypothetical of course)

Thank you for surprising me with lunch today

Thank you for doing the dishes today even though it was my turn

    Etc

We always go to Wednesday movie date nights, so I like the idea of maybe including those movie tickets on that day too. @Staci definitely planning on mixing in the grateful thing, hopefully I never have to use your hypothetical example haha!

@KPizzle - I did something similar for a Vday a couple years ago when we agreed not to spend money (A-Z reasons why I love you) and he almost cried. Even the biggest tough guy likes to hear how much they are loved I think! Smiley smile

KPizzle, I gave it a GM the morning of the wedding to give to him so I didn't get to see it. Had I actually had it finished, I would have given it to him myself. He didn't get to read it all though because on the last page I wrote "Can't wait to see you at 2:30!" but he still asked someone what time we were supposed to meet lol.

So great, I love those reactions. I have no idea how my FH would react. We'll have to wait and see.

We both started a journal when we got engaged. That was almost over a year ago so we don't write in it every day, just periodically. There's things wedding related and others not so much. There's stories from our past in there so he can see what it was like from a different view point (first date, engagement, etc.). Edited because I suck at spelling.

I'm doing a little notebook full of things like this, but I haven't started it yet (trying to decide if I should wait for a set time, like 50 or 100 days out, or just start it...) but I love some of the suggestions here!

My H made me an email account and gave me the password. He started the day he decided he was going to marry me. He sent me pictures, memories, funny things that happened, if he had a thought that day that was significant, and once we started planning then he did that.
