Dance floor?

Kevin, on March 9, 2020 at 8:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
My fiancé and I cannot decide if we should have a dance floor or not. Our venue has a outdoor patio all concrete floor with bistro lights( absolutely love) we will dance at. We will be using the patio for cocktail also! The inside of the building is wood floor and we were originally going to dance on that, but the number of people we have the venue said that we have to dance outside there is not enough room for table and chairs for dinner and dancing. There really isn’t too! We looked into dance floors and got some quotes and it was an unexpected 600 bucks because we weren’t going to have one in the beginning we didn’t budget for it. Should we get a dance floor or do you think pebbled concrete is ok to dance on? Dance floor? 1

Are you having a casual or upscale wedding style? Pebbled concrete doesn’t sound high-heel friendly (at least not for thing heel stems), so you’ll want to let your guests know about that surface area for the reception if you won’t be doing the dance floor.

It’s on the more casual side. We are calling is semi formal for attire wear, but very laid back wedding. We are already having something in the dress code not to wear heels because the ceremony will be on grass.

I think it would be fine how it is—we are in a similar situation as far as having our dancing on the patio outside due to inside space being tight. If you have the extra $$ for the dance floor you could get it. Our venue manager told us to encourage people to not take their shoes off on the patio outside in the event someone drops their drink and glass shatters—this could happen on just about any dance surface but it’s harder to get the glass shards completely removed on that type of patio surface. Just something to keep in mind!

If you’re tight on money you can just do concrete. I went to a wedding where it was hardwood floors so they didn’t do a dance floor

I think you’ll be fine. I did mine on concrete (I couldn’t justify the $700-1000 quotes I was getting). No one complained or cared (albeit, my venue was outdoors at the San Diego Safari Park and so it didn’t look weird. I would assume a banquet hall without a dance floor would be kinda strange).

If you're having a more causal wedding reception I think you'll be fine. If you are your future spouse do your first dance in the space, the guests will take note of where the "dance floor" is without the actual dance floor on the ground. I love the look of it. It will be beautiful!
