Dance lessons - yes or no??

Kati, on July 4, 2017 at 9:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I thought I was dead set on doing dance lessons with FH and my dad... but now with so much to plan and being so far over my budget I'm questioning it. Plus I've seen some videos of first dances where you can clearly tell it was choreographed and it almost seemed to take away from the moment being natural.

Wondering how many of you did dance lessons with your FH or dad, why, and if you are already married and could go back would you or wouldn't you in retrospect?

Thanks!!

I plan to practice with my stepdad, but he's a fantastic dancer and won't need lessons. My FH is another story! This man of mine has 2 left feet hahaha. We'll take a few ballroom classes to avoid the awkward rocking-back-and-forth-for-5-minutes thing lol.

My whole family did them. This was not for my wedding but brothers. It was nice and it was a fun thing to do with everyone but no one remembered much since it was only 7 weeks and we learned 4 styles. I would go back by myself since I really enjoyed it and had a great time but my FH doesn't want to.

One of my couples from last year did them and loved it...and they are keeping it up as it's something interactive they can keep enjoying together....they rocked it at the wedding, I can only imagine their skills now.

Something to consider would be checking out social dances in your area. FH and I are both social dancers- typically swing, but we do all types of ballroom as well. We learned by going to social dances, which are often $10-20 per person. Very affordable and fun!! Many of them even offer a lesson. While you won't learn something choreographed, you will learn how to move your bodies to music and how to create a dance that is fun, not just the typical sway. From there, it's much easier to pick things up from YouTube because you are more familiar with elements of partner dance. Good luck!!

Ive been dancing since I was 2. Tap jazz, ballet, the works. My studio owner is a world champion latin ball room dancer from back in the day. If she is still teaching closer to our wedding we are definitely her help us with a short dance. FH is not a huge dancer but he knows it is important to me and I am not one to just stand and sway in a circle. I think if it is something you might enjoy and can afford the lessons than go for it!

Youtube lessons on the tv with some wine on Friday nights is how we get down. Fun for both of us!
