Dance Lessons

Catie, on March 5, 2016 at 10:16 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

I am thinking about doing some dance lessons before our wedding. Both to brush up on some skills as well as to have some fun together. I was wondering if anyone else has done this? How far a head of your wedding did you do it? Did you do a one time lesson or a bunch of lessons?

FH really wanted to do dance lessons so we got a deal for 4 lessons on Groupon with a company that specializes in wedding dances. We did our first class last week, and according to the instructor, most couples do 8-12 classes (she suggests 12) to get a full dance learned and down. She also said the closer to the wedding, the better, if only because the longer in between, the less chance of retaining. I don't think we're going to be going for the full 12, but I'm sure we can take some tips and apply them for our wedding day. We'll see. =)

FH and I just signed up for 14 dance lessons! We aren't starting until the beginning of next year though. We did a couple of lessons already just to see what we liked. Definitely going to stick with the Rumba. We were laughing so hard when they had us do Swing dancing, not our style.

FH and I aren't big dancers, but I didn't want to do the middle school sway. We signed up for 5 dance lessons just to learn some moves. We started in February and have gone to two lessons so far. We are trying to schedule them about 2 weeks apart. We will probably buy 1 additional lesson as a refresher for the week before the wedding.

FH and I are both on board for dance lessons. We are taking 3 classes in May to see what types of dance we are comfortable with and can actually do. In the beginning of August, we will be taking a total of 5 classes. The dance instructor will be choreographing our first dance for us and this will give us time to learn and remember it right before the wedding.

We have our first intro lesson/consultation next Wednesday! I hope it doesn't feel too much like an audition (the consequence being what kind of package they try to sell us :p)! Maybe we're a little late on this? I've danced most of my life and FH has done some musical theater (in like high school and college though!) - but not sure exactly with what we're working and our short list includes a somewhat strange song choice.

Edit: I will never get used to touchscreen typing

We did and loved it! Helped us both so much. In order to make time for it, we incorporated them in to date night Smiley smile

We're doing dance lessons also, we started about 4 weeks ago and do one 1 hour class a week, and will continue them until right before the wedding.

They are actually so much fun and I'm so glad we decided to do them, we are going to keep taking lessons after the wedding is over as a fun thing for us to do together

We're going to take lessons, he's actually taken ballroom before. My concern is dancing in a huge skirt! But I can't let FH know that...

We were thinking of starting them soon, just to have a fun thing to do as a couple. Then if we enjoy them we will prob keep it going. Going to start with group classes and then see how we like it and maybe add a private lesson if we feel like it.

We did and loved it! We signed up for 5 lessons and the instructor taught us an intro, the box step, 3 really cool spin techniques, and a dip ending. It's not too crazy so we have it down and can have fun with it without overthinking it on our wedding night. We just had our 4th lesson last Thursday, but we spaced out our last one so we won't go back until March 24th (one month prior to the wedding). So worth it!!!

FH and I are awful dancers we are in lessons currently we did an intro one just to meet with the teacher and see if we liked him and are now working through 10 lessons with him. It's a super fun date thing for us esp during planning. Plus we are looking forward to surprising everyone with our dance. We started about 6 weeks out so doing twice a week to be done in time.

DH and I took lots of lessons in highschool and college-- although it'd been years since then when we got married, we just rnan with what we remembered. Keep in mind, practice is key, so after you take your lessons, find some way to practice-- at home alone, at other friends' weddings, at a community dance... if you don't use it, you'll lose it1
