"dancing on Clouds"...is this cheesy?

Brittany, on February 26, 2019 at 11:45 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

I would love to hear your honest opinion. Is the "dancing on clouds" smoke effect cheesy for the first dance? I went to a wedding a few years ago that did this, I though it was rpretty cool, and my DJ is bringing it up now. My MOH said nooooo...hard pass. She thinks it's cheesy. I can't really decide. I feel like it's cheesy but I also feel like I've seen some really cool photos from it. I'm also unsure about the smoke and guests with asthma. I'm thinking I'll just pass on it.

I think it’s kind of cheesy and can sometimes just obstruct the view of the couple, but if you love it, go for it!

If you have the concern over guests' comfort, always go with caution. Also, make sure to check with your venue too. Our venue had a very strict "no fog, no flames other than table candles and no confetti" rule.

But as far as cheesy or not, I would say if you love it, it's not cheesy. But if you're on the fence, I wouldn't bother spending the extra money.

I don’t think “cheesy,” but I think a little extra/overboard lol. Though I tend to be pretty simple and practical. If you want to I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it but it does seem a little unnecessary

I don’t think it’s cheesy but be careful if you have guests with asthma problems as this can cause difficulty breathing.

I don't like the look of it. Some of my favorite photos are from our first dance and smoke clouds make it way harder to capture perfectly clear photos. Also guests with breathing issues will not be happy.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts I'm on the fence but I'm leaning more towards not having it. Plus it's an extra expense ($300) that I can put towards something else. I'll give it some more thought Smiley smile

I think it is cheesy plus it is a health hazard. I have asthma so this would make it difficult for me to breathe.

I agree with the others, if you love it, go for it, but it could definitely be a discomfort to any of your guests with respiratory issues like asthma, allergies or other breathing problems.

As someone with asthma, I’d have to leave the room or I’d have an attack. I’d suggest skipping it.

It's very "New Jersey" - as in, I grew up in New Jersey, and now live in New Hampshire, and I've only ever seen in photos from weddings in NJ, and never at a wedding in New England.

It's your wedding. If it goes with your theme and you and your partner love the idea, do it! It isn't for me, but your wedding is your day, and you should do it if you want to.

If you know you have guests with asthma, then you should expect them to have to miss a significant portion of the reception because they will have to leave the room until the smoke dissipates. If you are 100% certain that none of your guests have asthma, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, depending on how thick the smoke is, you will want to be sure that your partner will be able to see the floor enough to not step on your dress!

I’m also on the fence with dancing in the clouds for our first dance. We got it thrown into our package dj deal for free and I feel like it could be magical. I do care what other people think but at the same time ive really just done what I want so far with the wedding planning. This is the one thing I’m on the fence about but it’s included. I’ve never been to a wedding that had it.
