Dark Wood room help, decoration and lighting help? *Pics*

Dolly, on January 18, 2012 at 2:49 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 5

I need help! My fh wants to book this venue that has a lot of dark wood walls and ceiling with chandeliers. it looks elegant and everything, but i want to see myself in that venue before i agree to book it. I originally wanted to do feather centerpieces and paper lanterns from the ceiling and lots of lights and uplighting. our colors are aqua black and silver.

in this darker space, the lanterns clash with the chandeliers, but do the ostrich feathers still work and what about lighting?

If you have enough uplighting and candles on the tables, maybe you won't need the chandeliers on?

I think paper lanterns and feather centerpieces are 2 different moods/atmospheres.

Have you started to price out those centerpieces? They are $50 - $100 per centerpiece. Just wondering if you have 1K in the budget to cover that, or if you would consider something else.

Maybe mini lanterns on the tables to go with the ceiling?

Or mini lamps made of wine glasses and vellum?

Yes i have looked at pricing for the centerpieces, those are the one thing i was sure that i wanted. the lanterns can go if the feathers go with the chandeliers and stuff. should i hang things like crystals from the chandeliers?

I would talk to you hall. They might not allow you to hang stuff from the chandeliers.

I wouldn't mess with them. Have all the attention on the tables. If anything, maybe some simple draping to go with your uplighting.

Wow! that looks really cool! this is almost what it would look like!

i think that some draping would give a nice lightening affect on the room and add places for the lights to accent.

i guess the feathers don't look bad with the darker room and chandeliers. i was worried that it wouldn't be the same kind of classy.

I'd pinspot those centerpieces, and skip the uplights, or just do them on the white walls. That dark wood will absorb so much output you'll need either really powerful lights, or a very bright (white) color to make them visible. Forget about dark red, blue, etc. And I'd also skip the lanterns.
