David Bridals ordered the Wrong color dress

Ashley1luv3, on September 11, 2018 at 9:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
So I found and ordered my dress on the 1st of September from David Bridals but was so excited I forgot to ask how long it would take to come in. I called them today and they said it should be ready for pickup next week (Yaa 2 week delivery time). But after staring at my receipt I noticed they ordered my dress in ivory. Now when I said yes they never told me it came in different colors ( white and ivory according to the website) but my sales rep knew I wanted white before I even started trying on dresses. The dress I tried on look very white to me so now I'm freaking out that the receipt says ivory. Will they take it back and order the color I wanted.

You should contact a sales rep ASAP!

I am unsure of their return policy.

Hopefully you are able to resolve that!

They should. I ran into an issue as well with them. I actually ordered a dress and lost weight. I bought the dress is Janurary and went in for the fitting a few weeks ago. Not knowing they only take dresses in 2 sizes. They were great about reordering everything. No charge. I just had to bring everything back to them. You should have no issue. But if your unsure. Give them a call and let them know what you noticed. And what you want.

Hey date twin! I loveee your dress. Obviously DB will know better than anyone, but I know they do exchange dresses. When I was looking there, I couldn’t decide between champagne and ivory because they only carried the dress I liked in champagne in the store but I had wanted an ivory dress. They said they could order me the ivory and if I ended up wanting the champagne instead they’d exchange it. So I think you’ll be ok. The only concern will be making sure you get it in enough time for alterations.

Bridal ivory looks white, especially in pictures. What color is the dress in your picture?

Ok great. Thank you for calming my nerves. I know I can call them tomorrow but I'm freaking out tonight and I told FH (thinking he would call my nerves as he always does) but he's here freaking out more than I am which of course makes me freak more.

Bridal Ivory looks white. I'm sure the dress in the picture is probably ivory. If your concerned contact the bridal shop and see what they say. Your dress is beautiful!

If your dress is anything like mine, it will take significantly longer to come in if you order it in white. Most of the dresses in the store were ivory and the salesperson indicated that it is much more common now than white and honestly I couldn't tell the difference until they were side by side, the ivory is practically white. I went with ivory because they didn't have my dress in the store in white and I didn't know if I'd like the beading/sequin coloration as much on the white, so I went with what I could see and what I liked. If I had ordered white I'd be getting my dress 2 weeks from now, when I should be starting alterations, instead of in July 2 weeks after I ordered it.

They might exchange for color, especially since they didn't ask, I know they'll exchange for size if you change more than 2 sizes. You just definitely can't change dresses.

You should go back and see which color you tried on and see if was even white, if it was see if they have ivory, you might still like it! If it was ivory you tried on, then you did like it! Good luck!

I'm not sure but I know when I tried on the dress you see pictured it looked really really white. My sister was saying the same thing as you that maybe it just looks white to me but was really ivory. So I may wait til next week when I pick it up and see if it looks like the color I tried on. But I'm definitely calling tomorrow to see what my options are. Im just freaking out a little bc I see the receipt says " I acknowledge that this purchase is a final sale" , not sure if they say that for all dresses or not.

Without seeing a side by side comparison, it actually looks ivory. Most wedding dresses are in ivory because it is less harsh on most people's skin tones than white is. You can barely tell the difference until you see white and ivory side by side and even then there are different shades. My dress was ivory, see below. But by itself, it looks "white." If you told the store to order white and they ordered ivory then that is their mistake that requires them to fix it. The return policy would not apply to that situation. Plus you would be exchanging not returning which I understand DB allows all the time (don't have personal experience of this).

I would call the store and ask them to order the right dress in white. People say that ivory looks white but I can 100% tell when someone has an ivory dress on vs white. Also the whole white not looking flattering thing I find at least applies to us super pale girls. My FH looks great in white and as you can tell from my picture he's not pale like me lol. I look horrible in pure white. I don't even own any piece of clothing that's pure white. Thankfully you've got plenty of time for them to get you the right color. I know a white white dress will look amazing on you!

My dress was Ivory. Bridal Ivory isn't dark like regular ivory cloth is. I would call and see if it can be fixed, but if not, I wouldn't worry about it!

I doubt you’ll be able to get it fixed. I had to remind the gal at the last minute at DB t order white instead of ivory too!

They’ll definitely exchange for the color you want wanted if it doesn’t come in right— that’s their fault and they will fix it!

BUT since it’s coming in so quickly, I’d actually advise you not to call and change it now. Wait til it comes in to see it— it might actually be the right color! I would’ve NEVER thought my ivory dress wasn’t “white” — bridal ivories are often so light they appear white to the eye and in pictures, so the Sample dress may well BE the ivory! The consultant may havr out you in it knowing just how white that ivory look. So, I’d wait til it comes in so that you can make sure it’s not what you want before changing anything.

Its still certainly possible they ordered it wrong— it happens, but they will make it right, promptly!
(my dress came in the wrong color [took 4 months!] and the store reordered a rush order immediately, came in in under 2 weeks!)— so try not to stress! This will get fixed if it needs fixing!

Contact the sales rep as soon as possible and see if you can trade it in. If it was their mistake they will probably fix it.

Also, maybe it's just me, but I seriously cannot tell the difference between white and ivory. I went to David's Bridal for my dress too, and the one I fell in love with was ivory, but it was the wrong size. They said they could order it in my size, but they only had white in my size, so I just got it in white despite only having seen it in ivory. I expected the white to be much brighter and was a little concerned I wouldn't like it as much... but literally when I saw it in white, I could not tell the difference AT ALL. It is possible I would've been able to see it if they had been held next to each other? But when I went to go pick up the white dress and was expecting it to look different from the ivory....... I would not have known the difference either way hahaha.

Definitely contact the sales rep because they should fix it for you. But if they can't, I wouldn't panic too much because you honestly may not even be able to tell the difference.

This should not be a problem... I would let them know ASAP that you saw a mistake on your paperwork.

When i bought my dress from Davids bridal, she asked me in the final moments before swiping my card if i wanted white or ivory (they should have asked you too) and it was hard because i wanted white, but she told me the dress i tried on was ivory. I ordered in ivory and i honestly cannot tell the difference.

They should be accommodating about the return/exchange, but if they are not, GO TO A DIFFERENT DAVIDS BRIDAL! I had similar issues with resizing and returning my ring to Kay Jewelers, and i found out by visiting another store in another state that ALL of my problems could have been avoided -_-

I'd contact them if you truly want a white dress but chances are the dress you tried on was ivory. If you like the way the dress looks on you and the color then I'd stick with ivory. Sometimes true white dresses look bleached and too brightly colored.

My Davids Bridal dress is also ivory, but looks very white to the naked eye.

I would wait to see the color of the dress when it comes in and ask to compare to the sample your tried. If the sample and the dress are the same then your fine. If there is a noticeable difference between the two then they should exchange with no problems.
