My first alteration consult is Tuesday. I need my straps, bust, and sides taken in. I need a bustle and hemmed. My dress is multi layered. I'm super stressed about cost. I'm going to use a private seamstress. I was quoted around 700-800 at the bridal shop I purchased my dress.

I agree.....they are super expensive. If you can find a good local seamstress go with them. They are a lot of retired “wedding seamstress experts” out there that do an amazing job for way less.

I'm dreading it once my dress comes in. if it costs to much to have a bustle i'm just going to have to deal with people stepping on it. iit's not a huge tain

Yep, I found a local seamstress who did a ton of work on my dress: Added cups, bustle, corset back, and took a couple inches off the hem. She also removed some excess fabric around where the hips are and all of that combined was $150. I just picked up my dress on Thursday and its perfect.

Im telling you! I bought my dress and my bridesmaids dresses at David's. Everything went great until we got in the bridesmaids dresses. The zipper was WAY to long and it went past the mid back right to the middle of the butt and made the dress stick out in a horrifying way!

It honestly looked like my bridesmaids had boners...on their butts. When I brought it up with them my only options were leave it there and have another order and cross our fingers it would come in on time...or have it altered at on my dime..When we talked to the seamstress she said she could not replace the zipper... So i decided then if you cant replace a zipper Im not letting you touch my lace gown. But i will say she had quoted me 750 to alter at Davids and I only spent 580 at the most well known formal ware seamstress in town.

Best advice I can give - don't get alterations done there!!

I knew they were like this - they have sales on dresses then get you with the alterations. That's why we bought dresses there, but are having them altered by someone else. Smiley winking

Woah! I'm really glad I did it the way I did... I did custom measurements thru Azazie, which meant it came hemmed and ready to go, just needed a bustle, which my sister put in

Most alterations done at David's are much higher than a seamstress would charge.

I feel you on that one...I paid their price, begrudgingly....and then after they were finished I had to take my dress to a different place to have them correct the things that David's messed up. The only reason why I accepted the dress and went elsewhere is because me and the alterations lady came to an impasse. I said they didn't do the job they were paid to do, and she said it wasn't her sewing it was my body...the new alterations lady immediately saw the issues and made no mention of it being my body. However, it's costing me almost the same amount that I paid the first time around to fix what they messed up.
