David’s Bridal Experiences?

I hate to be the negative nelly as I’ve heard that David’s bridal can be a nightmare. But can some of you share experiences there, good or bad? I’ve got an appointment there this week and I want to be prepared. Thanks ladies!

I got my dress and my girls got their dresses there. The lady was super nice, looked at what I had picked out online, and pulled similar dresses in addition to the ones I had favorited online. She helped me in and out of the dresses and didn't pressure me to buy any of them. I found two that I loved and she helped me try them on again back to back - I found the one when I didn't want to take it off again.

My MOH's dress was a different story. She ordered her dress in February and they told her it wouldn't be in until July 13 - two days before the wedding! It did eventually come in in a timely manner, but it was pretty crazy in the meantime.

It was two different David's - so a lot depends on location for sure.

I got my dress from David's Bridal and have absolutely nothing negative to say. I went alone as I was not expecting to do anything but browse. My attendant was ready for me when I walked in, we walked around the store while she explained about the different styles, colors and even sales they had going on. Once we went over the type of dress I thought I wanted, she brought me 5 dresses. She was very professional and super sweet. After trying on all of them, I went with the 2nd one I tried on.

My only suggestion is to go in with an open mind. The dress I chose was nothing like what I ever pictured myself to want or to even look good in. You will also feel super rushed but rest assured, every appointment has an allotted amount of time (90 mins) so your fitting room and your attendant is there for you the entire time. Don't be afraid to say you hate something or feel that you have to buy anything...they are there for you!

I worked at David's bridal as a seasonal associate. And honestly, do not book your appointment on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. It is a nightmare on the weekends. One dress specialist is working with two brides at a time, so you don't get the individual time with your consultant like I feel that every bride should. The weekdays are ALOT more calm because people work during the week. And also prom season is over, so that eliminates alot of highschool teens as well. Good luck!!!!!! I hope you find your dream dress!!

I went on a weekend which was pretty crowded but they had a much bigger and nicer selection than bridal shops around me and their prices Are way better. I had selected my favorite dresses ahead of time and when I went in for my appointment they already had my list and the dresses ready for me.

I bought my dress from them and had the best experience. My assistant dress helper lady (??) was so kind and listened to exactly what I wanted. When those dresses didn’t work, she gently suggested a different silhouette and it fit me perfectly! The entire process was painless. I couldn’t be happier.

Both my sister and I used DB for our wedding dresses (and bridesmaids). I had a good experience for both! I browsed a lot online and wrote down some styles, and actually ended up picking one of the 7-ish dresses I'd looked at online. I was super stressed going into it, but easily found a dress in the 90-minute appointment. DB also has a lot of plus-size and petite options available to order. They generally don't have them in-store, but I think almost all of their styles come in plus-sized and/or petite.

My MOH and 2 of the 3 bridesmaids ordered dresses in early April and already received them last week. I don't think any of them had any problems. Their dresses all arrived a lot earlier than expected.

I'd avoid weekends if you can. I tried on dresses and picked up on weeknights. It was nice and quiet in the store. When I picked up my dress (4:30 pm on a Wednesday), there was only 1 other bride in the store! I've heard their alterations can be pricy, so I'd recommend looking around your area for people who advertise specializing in wedding dresses. My sister took her dress to a local tailor, and I plan to do something similar with mine.

I've had two good experiences with them as a bride!

My attendant (both times) was great, quickly learned what I liked and didn't (omg high necklines make me so itchy and uncomfortable) and was able to pull some unique dresses in addition to some I had already chosen.

She helped accessorize with a belt (not my style), ribbon (love it), veil, etc.

I bought a dress from them that I liked in the moment. It's VERY easy to get caught up in the moment when everyone is oohing and ahhing at you.

I got it within about 5 weeks, I think. 8 had been the estimate. I took it out of the garment bag and... hated it. Realized that out of that dazzling moment, it wasn't me at all! They let me exchange it for merchandise credit, which was a huge relief. Since the other dress I picked out (my personal favorite from Round 1) was less than half the price, they let me make up the difference in a MOB dress, a veil, a slip and a bra, plus a preservation kit. My new dress should come in soon and should only need a few small alterations!

I will say, their shops aren't really glamorous and the lighting sucks. The dressing rooms are hot and stuffy and I ended up sweating like crazy, which made having someone zipping me in and out of dresses and clipping dresses to my bra less than fun, but my attendant was super professional. They seem to have sales/promos all the time, so you can't beat the value unless you get lucky with consignment, buying online/from overseas or buying used.

My advice: have someone take a lot of pictures and SLEEP ON IT. Unless you are 10,000% certain, wait a day or two to buy your dress.

Davids Bridal isn't a nightmare. What is a nightmare is their alterations department. You basically pay for another dress when you do alterations there. BUT they ALWAYS have good sales on wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses.

Daughter had very bad experiences as a BM a couple times at David's, but was generally pleasantly surprised by her experience shopping for a wedding gown there. We did go on a weekday afternoon, and pretty much had the store -- and definitely her consultant -- completely to ourselves. However, daughter had started the dress shopping process saying she was NOT going to make a decision on a first visit at any shop (and we visited four total). David's was our third store, and the consultant definitely tried to pressure her into saying "Yes, to the dress"! I could tell daughter was feeling conflicted, but the woman was REALLY putting the pressure on. I spoke up and reminded daughter she had said she didn't want to make a "snap decision," and suggested we make an appointment to come back the following week. The consultant wasn't happy with me, but daughter was relieved. Before that scheduled second appointment at DB, we went to our fourth and final shop, and daughter clearly found her "dream dress." She was SO glad she did not give in to the pressure. Just be very clear about what you want, and if anyone is going with you, let them know you want them to speak up if they have concerns about the process. You can ALWAYS go back and buy a dress later, but virtually no bridal shop -- especially David's -- will let you cancel for a refund, so take your time!

I had an apt there but found my dress that morning. Called to change my apt. No issue. Went in to look at bridesmaids and MOB dresses. We had a great experience. Our consultant was great, albeit a little over booked that day. Haven't ordered yet.
I know at least 2 of my friends got their bridal gowns there with zero issues.
I'd absolutely tell you to go and decide for yourself.

I’ve heard mixed reviews but honestly my experience shopping for my dress, getting alterations, and ordering bridesmaid dresses there has been great so far! There was a slight issue with my dress recently, but the alterations manager actually called me and was able to resolve it this morning and will have my dress ready Monday! If you’re unsure, maybe check the reviews for the specific location you’re looking to go to—there’s one the next town over from me that isn’t too great, but the one by me is much better! Agree with PP though, Saturday’s are sooooo busy there and can get overwhelming, so if you’re able to go on a weekday you’ll definitely be happy with that!

I went to DB after looking at dresses on their website and marking some favorites I wanted to see in person and try on. They had one of my favorites out of like 16. I also saw a dress in their “showroom” I wanted to try and was told they have all of those dresses in various sizes, somehow it was literally the only one of that style in the entire store 😐. I left pretty disappointed.

I went to DB and had a great time! They gave me time to browse the dresses with my friends and asked me which ones I wanted to try on and said we would go from there. I ended up going home with the 3rd dress and didn't even try on most of what I picked lol. It was just my dress Smiley smile The consultant was super nice and made me feel at ease with helping me in and out of dresses. She helped me pick out accessories that my friends took really good pictures of so I could just order them off Amazon lol. I did buy the tiara there but I just loved it too much to pass but the consultant didn't try to push me into getting every accessory.

Finding my dress and the first alterations appointment went great. When I went to go pick it up after alterations, I had a different girl working with me and she was clueless. She kept asking me what they had to do to the dress, even though she had a detailed paper in her hand the whole time. That trip was honestly a waste of time because at my first alt. appointment they determined they needed to change 3 things. When I went to pick it up, the new girl only checked 1 thing, realized it wasn't done completely, and then made me get out of the dress without checking the other 2 things. So if either of those things are wrong, we won't find out until my next appointment.

We also got BM dresses there because I didn't feel comfortable ordering them online. The consultant was sassy and not very helpful after determining what sizes they needed. My mom & I kept going and grabbing more dresses for them to try on. All of their dresses came in super quick though! They told us about 4 months, and we had them all within 8 weeks.

Got my wedding dress and MOH's dress there! It's certainly not a glamorous experience like most independent bridal boutiques, so if you're looking for that experience you may want to try a few other shops. However, they did have a lot of lovely dresses in my budget and well under what other designers charge for similar styles. I was lucky to find a dress I loved on sale and in my size, so I was able to take it home that day! Most would recommend to get your alterations somewhere else though, which is what I'm going to do. They also give you a ton of coupons when you buy there ($20 off my MOH's dress for example, plus things for Men's Wearhouse, Shutterfly etc.) which is a nice plus! Good luck & enjoy!

I went to David's Bridal and my experience/consultant were pleasant. I made an appointment on a Friday to avoid the weekend crowd. My consultant was helpful. She let me and my family pick through the rack. She wasn't overly attentive, which my mom and aunt didn't like, but I didn't mind. The only downside of the appt was her including the bra and slip, which were totally uncomfortable, as part of my purchase without consulting me. I really didn't know better, but for others, buyer beware!! You can say no! Otherwise I had a pleasant experience.

My experience two weeks ago was wonderful. My consultant Emily was sweet, funny and went out of her way to make me feel beautiful as a plus sized bride. Everyone I dealt with there was great. They were really busy but I never felt like I was being rushed, the sample I tried was marked 299 but it rang up for 399 due to being mis-marked but they fixed it immediately and gave it to me for the marked price. I felt valued as a bride and I would definitely recommend David's Bridal. I had a short time line because my wedding is in October, but my dress will be here the beginning of next month.

David's bridal gives me mixed feelings. The sales girl had acted like I had no business looking for my gown as early as I am 1 and a half yrs in advance. Then she made faces at me when I asked her to pull certain gowns to try. I had never tried on gowns before and had no idea what I was looking for. Basically she made me feel inadequate. I'm doing this on purpose. It had been my experience that the sooner you make purchases etc the more you may be able to save.
