David’s Bridal Experiences?

I hate to be the negative nelly as I’ve heard that David’s bridal can be a nightmare. But can some of you share experiences there, good or bad? I’ve got an appointment there this week and I want to be prepared. Thanks ladies!

I had a very mixed experience. I had actually fallen in love with a dress from David’s bridal before going in the store. I made an appointment, had all 7 of my bridesmaids and mom, with me for my appointment. The attendant with underwhelming personality wise but essentially did her job.
My biggest issue came with the sizes. As I stated, I had fallen in love with a dress. I am a plus size bride and knew this dress came in plus size. However, they only had standard sizes in that dress in the store. So naturally, I asked if they could have one in a plus size shipped over to try on. They down right refused. The only way to get a specific size is to actually order the dress without having tried it on. Which is absolutely insane- to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress that you haven’t been able to try on and David’s bridal has a crazy strict return policy (only exchanges no returns I believe). So I left the store truly devastated bc I knew I was in love with that dress.
About a week or two later I get a call from David’s bridal saying that the dress had miraculously shown up in the store in a plus size. After this everything went smoothly and I did end up buying the dress. It came in much much quicker than expected and fits absolutely perfectly.
Sorry for the long message but just wanted you to know that you likely will not try on your size (or possibly anything close to it).

I just went in last week and my appointment was a bit hellish. The sales rep was nice but she would often ignore concerns about dresses that I was trying on. I will say if you see dress that you like online, it's worth going into the store to try it on if available.

I saw a dress online that I liked but was concerned about how it would look in person, it was lovely. I plan to purchase and alter for wedding events. Another dress looked lovely online but didn't look so good in person.

All in all, glad I had the experience.

I looked there for my BM’s dresses. They are terrible quality and look very cheap. So I decided to go elsewhere. I did see some of their wedding gowns while I was there. I had the same opinion of the bridal gown. They tend to look a little cheap.

I went to David’s Bridal and found their dress selection, to me personally, to be lackluster. I’m looking at local bridal shapes now.

    Hi!

When I picked out my wedding dress, the woman that helped me was awesome! Her name was Cindy. Stating her name since I will be referring to her again in this response.

When I brought my girls to pick out their dresses, it was easy since they were able to go online and look at the dresses first. I was told by Cindy to go online and pick out the dresses I want them to wear as well as the same color and fabric. I allowed my girls to pick their own style dress as long as it was the same fabric, color, and length.

Then, I had my fitting in April. It was fine the ladies were not super helpful.

I picked up my dress in May. Still a fine experience just not super helpful.

However, like any job people will be better or worse depending on whom you get and her work ethic.

I disliked my attendant, but the seamstress was literally the best ever!! She came in on her day off to make sure my alterations were just what I wanted and worked perfectly!

My bridal appointment was awesome and that’s also where I ended up getting my dream dress from. However my Bridesmaid appt is a completely different story. Now I did go on a Saturday (so I can reasonably see and understand where they’d be more busy this day & on weekends) however that was the only time that worked for everyone also I made sure with everyone and made the appointment well over a month in advance to make sure we all had our ducks in a row (plus with my job I have to have my days off including Saturdays off turned in at least a month in advance). My issue is that even with us having an appointment in the books that far in advance as well...we were still for some reason put on the back burner in order for others especially our consultant to help walk-ins. I didn’t understand not agree at all with the apparent “walk in” policy they had (or at least this location/consultant had where I was at) due to us not only having a for sure appointment but also a for sure appointment in advance and we all even knew what we wanted. The consultant only helped us for only 2 minutes if that and the only time she brought us anything (helped at all) was two dresses that didn’t fit anything we were looking for and told her we wanted. Couldn’t even get our budget right that we did our best to drill in her brain lol. I don’t blame this poor girl because the brief moments when she was around she was super sweet and you could tell she was being pulled in SO many directions and stressed out and I let DB know I wasn’t happy with what they do with walk ins over appointments just so they can make a buck. And it should and better change or else they will be losing business if not lost it already. They definitely lost mine since my bridesmaids bought theirs at the mall afterward 🤣 so there goes DBs opportunity to sell another 7 dresses...oh well. Sorry don’t mean to scare you or anything. Like a lot of people say on here it really can happen anywhere and it does just simply boil down to the worker really and not just the location but I’m sure the location and if it’s on a weekend it doesn’t help. Good luck to you and have a fun time! ✨💕

I just went to one last Saturday and was worried too. They weren’t really busy so the consultant was just with me. We picked out 6 dresses to start with based on the criteria I gave. I had my own changing space. In the area where I showed my mom the dress there were about 4-5 other girls also sharing their dresses, but we each had our own mirror and no one was in each other’s way so it still felt more personal. It was my first time trying on dresses and my consultant was really respectful of that and of my budget. Hope you have a good experience too 🙂

I found a ton of great options on the website choosing only "in store" options. My favorites list was so huge, I knew I would need to cut it down so there were a few favorites I really wanted to try but keep an open mind. We booked a weekday afternoon (double appt to include MOB dress). When we arrived, my consultant was so blah and they were evasive about pulling ANYTHING from my very long list as promised. They showed me 1 rack of dresses and told me to just pick some from that. Everything else in store was off the rack by size. They didnt have any of my favorites. Then she told me she had another bride so they double booked us and literally would have us trade dresses going back and forth. No pedestal to stand on (as a short girl is necessary). She kept trying to put me in styles she knew I didnt like and kept repeating that we only had 90 minutes. She didn't even seem to make too much effort until she knew I was giving up. My favorite dress wasnt available at any David's bridal shop (only online). I left completely deflated especially because other bridal shops I researched started in the thousands. My mom and I quickly tried to find another place or 2 that was open and made appts to check out the selection. First place was small but great attention and had some possibles. Then I went to clarices bridal in st Louis and they had the same size rack as David's bridal but for every style of dress. Rack after rack. I only looked at 1/4 of a rack with full attention from a very professional consultant. She knew what she was doing by helping me narrow down what I liked. We pulled 6 dresses and a few of them would have been great but found the one in less than 30 minutes. She picked out the headpiece and veil for me. Then we picked out bridesmaids dresses (with discount). Couldnt say enough good things about clarices. Maybe David's is different in other areas but I dont see how a bridal shop could carry such pathetic inventory and consultants. I would go but have some backup appts.

This is my second marriage and David's Bridal was actually better than any boutiques I've been to in the past. Some places didn't let me pull my own dresses, didn't let me take pics, only let me try on a certain number, didn't let me see price tags etcs. At DB I could do all of this and tried on over 20 dresses in 2 hours. I also have a hard time making decisions so after buying the dress I called up saying I was unsure and they said I could come back in to try on more and possibly exchange. That doesn't happen at all at other stores. My consultant texted me to have me send her some other dresses so she was ready when I came back in. She also came in on her day off to help me again. I really think you have to find the right consultant to work with and it makes a huge difference.

I've purchased 4 bridesmaids dresses, and now my own wedding gown, and so far so good. Sometimes the employees can be a little scattered on the weekends, but that's to be expected. I haven't had any major issues with alterations yet, but I haven't gone in for my dress so fingers crossed.

It really depends on which store you go to. My first appointment was at David’s Bridal in a big city on a weekend so it was *busy* and I could barely get the help I needed. My second appointment was near my in laws house which is a small town. There was nobody in the store at all and I got 5 personal consultants. They all told me their opinions and gave me so many options. They were great! We set up to have my alterations at that spot because I would love to have that atmosphere when getting my alterations done!

I had an appointment at the one in Independence, MO a couple weekends ago for several of my bridesmaids to try on the dress to see which size they needed to order. The sales lady was very kind and helpful. She explained everything and provided lots of information. This experience was a good one.

I had an appointment at the one in Sunset Hills, MO this past weekend and it was completely different story. This sales lady was rude. She rushed us through everything. Myself as well as one of my bridesmaids caught her rolling her eyes at us on more than one occasion. She failed to explain the no-return policy to my bridesmaids (which I only knew about because of the previous appointment) and when we were done, she didn't say thank you or anything. She just said "ok you're done" in a rude tone. I am supposed to have an appointment at this location to get my dress, but now I'm having second thoughts.

I went on a weekday at the end of August, not planning to buy, but just to try on some silhouettes. I even went by myself, as I wanted to make my own judgement. The store was pretty quiet at the time, and my consultant was nice, but definitely a quick talker. I tried to pull up my saved favorites from their site on my phone to show her, and was unable to load. Smiley sad but, I told her my budget and my wish for a tea length dress, and we went from there.

I was a little disappointed by their selection, because I was going in expecting a million dresses like their online store has. They only had like, two tea length dresses, but my consultant and I looked around, and when another family came in, she went to help them but told me I could browse on my own. I found what I thought was a hideous dress on the rack that I wanted to try on for fun, and lol, I loved it. I bought my dress that very same day, hahaha. Overall, I think if you go to db, you need to have an open mind. It will absolutely NOT be like say yes to the dress or anything magical, but it is absolutely doable and not a bad experience if you have an open mind.

I will say, I wish I had double checked my dress first before buying it, because one of the seams on it was incomplete! I got my dress altered at db as well, and they repaired it free of charge. Since there were no alterations other than the hem length, it came out to like $50 for alterations. My dress itself was $240 and I spent an extra 10 for a garment bag. My seamstress was really nice, and when I told her I was back and forth about adding sleeves, she was patient and brought some samples, and then walked on the floor with me to look at potential accessories and how they would look sewn on. I already had accessories from amazon and was upfront about it, so our time was looking for similar items to see if they should be sewn, or if we could find something better. Overall, she was great, and I got my dress back a month later, on time. Smiley smile

I loved my Davids bridal experience!! My maid of honor, bridesmaids and myself all got dresses. They let me actually try on one dress, that happens to be my dress after my bridesmaid appointment. They gave me time to think about my decision, and gave individual time for each of my girls. I could not be happier!!

We had a wonderful shopping experience there. I was supposed to go look at wedding dresses there, but found something I loved at my first appointment. Called, changed my type of appointment. Looked at bridesmaid dresses, and MOB dresses. Our sales lady was great, but stretched thin.

Unfortunately, they discontinued the bridesmaid dress I wanted for the girls. And my mom found an amazing dress elsewhere. So we didnt end up going back.

I felt pressured to try on dresses out of my price range. And they kept giving me dressing that I didn't ask for. I went to a bridal boutique I was the only one in the store I felt so much better less stress and I could hear myself think and my bridal party.
