Davids Bridal - in store vs online

AndixLyn, on July 24, 2014 at 2:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

I was hoping someone may work there or have some insight for me. when i was in the store i told them that i had added a dress to my cart (to find out shipping & tax costs) and a day later they emailed me a 10% coupon. the consultant said to be careful ordering off the davidsbridal.com website because "believe it or not, they're not the same, they aren't US" so now i'm confused, if i order the dress online would it not be the same dress they would put an order in for? online says 10 day shipping, in store she said 12 weeks. i'm just trying to wrap my head around it and why or how that makes sense. or if she was just saying it so she gets the commission.

I have no idea but I'll give you a bump.

My best guess is that she's trying to make commission - I can't imagine they would be different.

No clue here either. But with a huge company like that...why would they be different? It would just complicate their inventory and create problems with inconsistency of product. Like Milwaukee, I think she's out for the commission.

Sweetness. i have a HUGE convention at work this week so i made an appt for August 4th, so i have time. plus the wedding is next summer. but i do love the (i think) 2 year old dress (Galina wg3381) so i don't wanna "hold off and wait for a crazy sale" but i also believe in a deal! hahaha

It's true that they are two different warehouses, but that's it. One of my BM got her dress in the store, the other got it online. Same thing. The only difference is that the store bought dress took 3-4 weeks to get in and the online one arrived in less than a week. You can easily return things online, too.

Ashely is correct - they ship from 2 different warehouses but they are the same dresses. I did the same thing, I added a BM dress to my basket to see about shipping, tax, etc. Then we went to the store and was told 8-12 weeks to ship. I told the salesgirl sorry I don't feel comfortable waiting that long I'll just order online. She ended up ordering it online for me (maybe gets some commission?).

The dress arrived in less than 2 weeks and looks exactly like the dress that was tried on in the store.

A few of my girls purchased their DB dresses on Amazon. I'm guessing they come from the "online" warehouse, they just use Amazon as another selling outlet. It only took 2-3 days for the ones ordered from Amazon to arrive. The selection is not quite as robust as online or in store, though.

I've never worked there but online and in store are basically like two different stores. I ordered a dress (for my shower) online and it came damaged so I had to return it. I called the store and she said that they don't handle anything with online stuff. And like others said they have two different warehouses. If what you order in store is not in stock in their warehouse they have to wait for the manufacturer to make the dress and get it to them, which is why they say 10-12 weeks. If the style you're looking at is 2 years old I would try to order it as soon as possible because if they don't have one in stock they probably wont be able to get one from the manufacturer anymore.

I just saw Jobu comment on a thread and tried to direct her here. If she doesn't see it, here's her profile. You could message her.

I'm here i'm here i'm here! I love that you ladies remembered I work there! Smiley smile

I worked there up until 2 weeks ago, but I do have your answer! At least at the store I worked at, we never got commission. We tried our hardest to have brides/BM order from us directly because the sale would count towards our numbers. If it wasn't possible for us to order the dress via store or for it to get there ontime, we would order in store from the website via our ipad and enter in our store code, that way we would still get the sale, but only once the dress shipped. That was our last resort though, because you can return stuff online so there was a chance that the item would be returned and we would lose the sale. So we were told by our managers to do whatever we could to order the item in store rather than online. Essentially, online DB and in-store DB are two separate things. If you buy something online, you can't return it to the store. It is strictly done via the website. Plus, the website takes returns while in-store doesn't. But the dresses are no different from each other....they just come from 2 different warehouses like previous ladies have mentioned. So if you want your dress sooner, and as long as you know the style/size that worked for you in store, you can definitely order online and it will be the same dress, and come a lot sooner than ordering in store. You can still go to the store for your alterations if you wanted, etc. I think I remember you posting somewhere that you fell in love with an older Galina. I would order relatively soon because depending on how long it has been out, they may discontinue it soon...probably close to December when they roll out tons of new dresses.

So, long story short, there is no issue with ordering online--it will be the same dress and come sooner. You just won't be able to exchange it in store, only online.

Hope I helped. If not, let me know any more questions you have and I will be happy to help!!

JoBu you are brilliant, thank you so much!! and all of the rest of you!

i feel like, after all that info & input, even with the 10% off coupon, I should probably order in store. I told my consultant that we've been TTC for a while and she said IF i do get pregnant at a time when I'd be too big for my dress, the store is almost always willing, in those special circumstances, to either exchange for a bigger size, or another dress of equal value. store size was 6 and fit well but a little tight on the hips when i tried to sit and the alterations lady said it could be let out up to 1", but i was going to order an 8 anyway to allow for extra room and avoid the "wedding crash diet panic"

obviously i'd love to be pregnant soon so we would already be delivered by June 2015, but you never know how things work. we are avoiding TTC during Sept-mid October so I wont be 8-9 months at the wedding, but other than that, we're excited to start a family. and the peace of mind that if i walk in the store with a size 8 dress and i'm giant pregnant they'd be willing to work with me on exchanging it made me feel better. i should probably get the managers & consultants name that tell me that and get it in writing. hahaha

    So glad I could help!

And yes, as long as your dress hasn't already been altered, you can exchange it for a bigger size or one of equal or greater value, should you get pregnant before the wedding.

    Good luck!

Be careful ordering a wedding dress on the David's Bridal website... I think they are all sample dresses which means they won't be a perfectly new dress. I saw that the dress was on sale online and when I went to the store to buy it, it cost more than online so I asked why it was cheaper online and the lady said because it was a sample dress.

Online has a sample and outlet section that state its a sample and may not be new or perfect. but the majority of the site are brand new dresses. just different return/exchange policies from what we can gather.
