David's Bridal return policy

Tori, on June 12, 2017 at 10:35 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

Hello all! So this past Saturday, I went dress shopping with my mom, my sister, and my best friend. Yes I know I'm early, but my sister, best friend and I are all still in college/grad school and they are both long distance so that's what worked. I found my dress (YAY!) but wanted to be sure I was not making a decision I'd later be backed into, so I asked repeatedly about their return policy. They begrudgingly told me that if I had a problem, I could bring it back and exchange for a dress of equal/greater value. The problem is, their website and my receipt say that there are no returns/exchanges. I have called that specific store and they insist I would be able to return, but are completely unwilling to put anything in writing which states that. Should I push for something in writing? I'm so concerned that if I do end up needing to exchange as the date is so far away, and there is the remotest chance my mind might change, they will not honor it because it isn't in writing. Thoughts?

I would definitely push for something in writing.

Can you email the manager of that store and say, "So we discussed on XXdate that I would be able to return or exchange a dress as needed, is this still correct? Would you please confirm?" Hopefully they reply to that and there's your in-writing proof.

Don't push it though by being like, "I need this in writing so that I have something to back me up later." Just keep it as a general inquiry.

That's a valid concern, maybe it varies from store to store because I asked the same question and they told me I could do a one time exchange for the same dress but different size.

My daughter ordered a dress from there. Her dress was very form fitting and then she got pregnant. Here is what we did. We took it to the store and they looked it over. She said they wanted to make sure their was no rips tears or signs of being worn. Since it wasn't we exchanged it for a slightly higher priced dress without hassle.

I just purchased flower girl dress for my 10 year old. The lady said if ahe has a growth spurt between now and the wedding as long as her dress is in prestine condition I can exchange it.

If you still have concerns email corporate they will email you the policy info

I have exchanged sizes before an that hasn't been a problem I will be doing that this week actually with my wedding dress. I called to make sure even though I have done it with a bridesmaid dress and I read the same thing online and when I called they said no problem. I wouldn't know first hand though about returning for a new dress.

Exchanging sizes is fine, but I've always run into them not returning or exchanging for different dresses. This may vary from store to store, but I have a BM dress from a cancelled wedding hanging in the back of my closet that I couldn't return or even exchange for store credit.

If they told you that was the case for their store, they probably will do it and have done it in the past.

I made three separate exchanges at DB. Two dresses and a veil. I did not have to fight them on it, I just asked to speak to the manager. They were incredibly nice about it and I had no problems. Just make sure the return is to the same location at which you purchased it and that it is new/unaltered with tags still on, and bring the receipt. Also, call to speak to a manager before heading over. That's what I did.

FYI, one exchange was for a different size, one for a different dress (I had dress regret with the first gown I exchanged for a different size), and one for a different veil. I was able to replace the returned items for a totally different style--I exchanged the dress for one by a different designer, and the veil for a different style as well. One return did not equal the value of the first gown purchased (it was less) so I met the original balance by adding on shoes and some accessories. I've heard this has been the case for other brides as well. But you have to do it at the time of the return, they don't do store credit!

IMO Davids Bridal has a pretty high employee turnover and to me it seems like nobody ever knows what is going on. Once I went with a friend to pick up her wedding dress and they literally just handed it to her and were like "here you go congrats!", without having her try it on to make sure it fit. Another time, I called to see if a MOB dress was in still stock for my mom and they told me it wasn't when they had 10 on the rack the day before. Same thing with a flower girl dress.

That being said, I would push for it in writing or ask to speak to a manager.

Thanks all. I will be calling today and speaking with the manager as she was not in yesterday. I'm about ready to cancel the order at that location and order the dress at a location which will be a little more accommodating. I love my dress... Just hard that the people I have spoken to since then have not been very kind. Again, thank you for all of the input!

I was able to exchange for a size down after my dress came in the first time. I can't confirm on a style switch though.

I have not had to deal with exchanges at DB personally but have known friends who did. A college roommate of mine had dress regret with her first one and was able to take it back to exchange. They told her no store credit or money back but as long as the dress was still new (unworn with the tags/unaltered) she was fine to exchange. Good Luck!

    I'd push for something...

But I've had two experiences where they let girls exchange dresses. Once for a smaller size and once for a bride who suddenly found her perfect dress ugly.

I hate davids bridal. I found a dress I was going to order it off rack but didn't have all the money that day I also ordered a veil which was 180 dollars. After leaving I could not justify spending 180 dollars on a veil. I called them the very next day to ask them to take the veil off, and I asked if I did would I still be hit with the cancellation fee the person I spoke to on the phone told me i had to come into the store to do it and I had to be there that day to avoid the fee. The store is 2 hours from where I live I had to take off work and rush up there to make it in time before they closed. The lady at the counter was extremely rude. She told me she couldn't take the veil off that I would have to pay the entire ballance off first and then process it as a return. Even though their policy says they do not accept returns unless it was ordered online. So that was one wasted trip there she couldn't help me. I called the store again the next day and it seemed like no matter who I spoke with they all had different opinions on their return policy. No one knew what they were doing there. I ended up canceling my entire order dress and all, and they charged me a fee. So in the end I wasted over 100 dollars there in return for nothing but wasted time, stress and money.

I'd be concerned. I was told Id be able to exchange a BM if it didn't fit. It didn't fit but because it took more than 30 days to come in, I could no longer exchange it. I had to buy a second dress.

You can't return, and get cash back. What they will do is exchange for equal or greater value.

I purchased my dress from Davids Bridal in FL, moved to CO and was able to exchange my dress for greater or equal value. I had major dress regret. I just called before to speak to a manager who was super accommodating! I bought it in FL and exchanged it in CO 7 month later

I was able to exchange my dress as well. When I purchased it in the store it fit perfectly, but the one I was shipped somehow was 3 inches shorter. If you go to the store you purchased it at and speak with a manager you can likely exchange it. But.... make sure you pay attention. The new dress they exchanged mine for was a different color then what I originally bought. So I had to have them exchange it a second time to get the correct color with added length.

I am not aware of ability for exchange or refund through David's Bridal stores. If you do not have something in writing, there is no way to enforce a commitment. If you have any hesitation, and if you have not yet purchased the dress, I would wait until you are closer to your date so you will feel more secure with your decision.
