David’s Bridal?!?! Voided my Store Credit

Taylor, on August 14, 2023 at 11:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 5
I went in for my dress fitting today to get a bustle and hem done on my dress at David’s Bridal. A couple months ago, I returned a short veil and a tiara because I read that their return policy only gave store credit within a certain number of days and then you just couldn’t return the stuff anymore. I went out of my way to return those things and spoke with someone on the phone about how my store credit could be applied to alterations (keep in mind this is like a $300 store credit merchandise card).

The seamstress spends an hour and a half pinning my dress and then walks off and tells the manager I want to use a gift card. She comes back and tells me that as of may 17, ALL GIFT CARDS ARE NOW VOID DUE TO THE COMPANY’S BANKRUPTCY.
I was absolutely livid. I should at least get the items I returned a couple of months ago back so that I could use or sell them. I don’t even know how to handle this. I asked if I could talk with the manager since I was told that I could use this on alterations. The manager was on the phone nearby, looked at the seamstress, and said “all she can do is call the number.” She literally spoke like I was not standing there. I am so upset… I had to pay the $300 out of pocket because I’m not going to screw myself over on alterations when I am less than 2 months out. Does anyone know how to work around this? It’s the principle… I was not rude at all and reiterated that I understood it wasn’t her fault. But can the company actually do this and screw me out of $300?!

I'm so sorry. Yeah, I'm trying to let all new people know about the David's Bridal situation. I think there will be a lot of fallout coming up now. I'm not a lawyer, but I think you have to add your name to a list of creditors.

The bankruptcy court may have made the decisions on credit like this.

May 17 is listed at the end of the credits

David's Bridal, LLC: Bride FAQ (omniagentsolutions.com)

David's Bridal is making a request to end the bankruptcy now that they have had a bunch of debt relieved. They will then have a good chance of surviving for a while, since there would have to be agreement that the company can manage continuing operations.

    Hi Tyler,
I’m going through the same thing as you. I did my return in February 2023. I got in store credit of $250. The company filed for bankruptcy in April. I called the store and staff said there wasn’t no rush to spend my in store credit because their store wasn’t closing. I went back in June and the staff said I couldn’t use it due to bankruptcy, I filed my claim on Omni solutions agency and I hvnt got no response. I called and the caller representative says they haven’t got an update on the case but yet it was dismissed…. Hope one day I get a check in the mail.

OKAY.... so I have $776.56 in merchandise credit for David's Bridal. My daughter got married in November 2022; I really can't tell you what month we started dress shopping (it's all a blur). I have the original receipt (it's a little worn...LOL). Kept telling all brides-to-be and prom girls that I had them available but really wasn't that worried about it because THEY NEVER EXPIRE, THEY ARE TRANSFERABLE. Finally almost 2 years later; my daughter has a co-worker that has her dress picked out @ david's bridal! SWEET take these merchandise gift cards use them and we'll make payment arrangements amongst us (you know; young brides are 'ballers on a budget). She goes to david's bridal and they WILL NOT TAKE THEM. Now I get that this bankruptcy was probably common knowledge for those that are in the wedding mode. BUT I knew nothing about this bankruptcy so here I sit with $776.56 worth of NOTHING.

The bankruptcy and selling of David's Bridal actually created a new company. Generally the bankruptcy requires notification of debtors (i.e. the merchandise credit). Or your card may have made you a creditor -- that you have "loaned" money to them.

It does create some negative press for the new David's Bridal to not honor some amount of that credit, but they (the new owners) probably are looking to mostly future business and do not care about the few numbers of people with the merchandise credit.
