Hi girls...I need your help!

Anyone buying or bought a David's Bridal wedding dress? I need sizing help.

Did you buy your "normal" street clothes size, or did you need to buy one size up, or even two sizes up???

I'll explain my situation...found my DREAM DRESS after searching forever online. Only problem? Its a David's Bridal dress, and I live in Canada on the east coast and there are NO stores nearby, thus I will have to order it online without actually trying it on.

I really want to get the sizing right the first time I order, I know they are a reputable company and they will take back reutrns but I just want to get it right!!!

I am normally a size 6 in regular clothes, do you think I should order a 6 or go with a 8 or even a 10?? Measurements are roughly 37.5 bust, waist 28, hips 40. I may fall between sizes, I'm not sure!!?

Any help would be appreciated greatly

alice

Softail how tall are you???? I am 5'4", I wonder if they would consider me a petite?? I'm usually right in between a normal and petite.

sorry elizabeth!!! The dress I love is WG3121. I love basically everything about it. Kinda wish it was a lace-up, but I can deal with it as is.

I have a little notebook where I have been keeping track of all the syles I like, I should really be saving a spreadsheet but oh well too late at this point Smiley tongue

The notebook is portable so I take it in my purse everywhere I go. This one is definitely at the top of my list.....it is so nice and the price is right...oh why do we not have a DB here in the maritimes!!! grrrrr!! so mad!!

I would recommend you make a road trip to the nearest DB and order there. I am usually a 12 in jeans but my dress had to be ordered in a 16 or my twins would have spilled over the top of the dress. A wedding is not a time to look like Jessica Rabbit!

I got my first and second dress there both I went up two sizes. But keep in mind my breast size is 36 H. I wear a size 10 pants and a 14/16 shirts. So the bottom is way too big. However the rule of thumb is 2sizes bigger.

LOOOL at Jayden'smom !! No thats definitely not the look I'm going for Smiley tongue

Natalie..I'm only a 36B/C so I don't know if that will help fit the girls in Smiley winking How many inches do you need to get the bottom taken in?? Thats what I worry about, if the alterations will ruin the shape of the dress. We'll see!

Shaunie thats what I'm looking at a fit and flare lace dress. They are super flattering!

I bought my gown at Davids Bridal and I got a size 8, which is also the size of top i wear. Alot depends on your body and the dress. My gown is an A-line so the lower measurements dont matter very much. (which is good b/c if my lower measurements mattered I'd had to get a MUCH bigger dress!) The only other advice I really have is that it is easier to take a gown in than it is to let it out so keep that in mind.

I am a similar size to you, my measurements are about 38, 30, 38 and I am also 5'4" and 36B. My dress is a size 8 from David's Bridal. It is a little tight but it is also a corset style so it can be adjusted and I plan on losing a little more weight before the wedding. My dress is also long on me. It will have to be altered unless I was wearing some crazy high heels! I was not aware of the petite sizing when I got my dress or I probably would've checked into that bc alterations can get expensive. Hope this helps!

Thanks ladies for the tips!! I was looking online at reviews of DB dresses last night, and they just added to the confusion, some wore the SAME dress size as their normal everyday clothes, most of them went up one size and some 2 sizes. Ayiyiyah!!!

@Mrs.Williams thank you for the info...you are pretty much the same size as me I think, although my hips are a bit bigger (thanks mom!)

I'm probably 40 in the hips. My weight goes up and down but I'm about 127 right now. I don't really want to lose too much before the wedding maybe 5 pounds or so. I still want to have some curves, I find when I lose weight, I lose my bewbs....and theres not much there to begin with.. so!!

As for the length so I'm about 5'4", and I think petites stop at 5'3", but I'm undecided as to if I'm going barefoot for the ceremony (probably since its on the beach), but I'm thinking about afterwards, I'm going to be wanting to wear shoes walking around with hubby on the boardwalk, etc & dont want dress too short

I have your exact dimensions and I fit snuggly into a size 10, except for when I sat. That changed everything. I was busting out of the top and couldn't breath. So, the seamstress said I definitely need a size 12. I tried it on and it fit perfect! I'm kind of sad, though, because if I lose any weight then I'll need it taken in, but my goal was to lose some weight. It's a toss up - lose weight, feel good, but spend more $$$ for alternations or don't lose any weight, feel ok, and spend nothing for alternations... I say get a 12 and you can always take it in if needed.

    Alice P:

This dress if phenomanal on. I ended up purchasing a dress very similar to this one in ivory. I am a street size 6 and purchased an 8. No alternations needed. I am 5'6 so the length was perfect. Good luck!

I think it depends on which style of dress you are getting. I bought my dress from DB and I am usually a size 3 but the dress that I bought was a size 0. I think they all fit differently so your best bet would be to use their size chart to get the closest estimate.

From my experience go with your largest measurement. They can always take it in in the other areas. Letting it out is much harder and this way it's tailored to your body and makes a better fit in the end.

    For you petite girls:

If you are 5 feet 4 or shorter especially if you have a shorter torso that's me, the petites are a great fit. They are tailored to petite proportions for a better fit this includes the skirt, torso and train. I think it's about 4 inches in total and definitely helps with alteration costs. Im 5 ft 1 and have longer legs. I usually wear a 0- 2 petite and I purchased a 6 petite and needs to only be altered and taken in about an inch in the waist and 1 inches on the hem. (Wearing 4 inch heels) At the time i wanted a 4 petite but it was on sale and inventory was low but this actually worked out better because it was tailored exactly to my body.
