Dedicated April 2020

Davids bridal

Yall I'm tripping and flipping out. I have an appt in April to go look for dresses. I pulled up David's bridal where I'm located and have been looking at dresses online most of the dresses I see are hideous the only thing I like are the prices. I'm sure they may have some on the rack but I'm just worried I wont find what I particularly want especially for my body type right at this moment what I'm looking for and how I want it to look. I know I should try other stores but I just moved to Florida trying to step out my shell of being shy and exploring the big city lol any suggestions for plus size brides who may not make it to their goal weight before their wedding in 450 days...#paranoidAsh

I'm not a plus size bride but when I went they seemed to have a lot more options in the store. I couldn't find many I liked on the website but found a bunch I really liked in the store! I'd at least give it a try. It won't hurt to go see what they have especially considering how cheap you can get a dress there.

Yes! That's what I was hoping for that they have a better selection in store. Thank you for the reassurance! Did you find your dress that day?

See I live in Northern Virginia and they have very few bridal boutiques for us curvy ladies lol but I luckily I'm close to Maryland and they have alot of plus sizes boutique.. but do your research online. My wedding is April of 2020..tried on a few dresses at David's Bridal already..not a huge selection of plus size dresses... I'm currently looking at Azazie.com. they have sample dresses to try on for $15, only issue is that it's first come first serve, and the dress I have my eye on is already gone so gotta wait until they return it

I'm a plus size bride and not at all a fan of DB's selection. I would for sure try out more than one shop. I love Essense of Australia for plus size options. Have you checked them out? You have plenty of time.

I know it might not seem like it in the picture, but I really want to lose 40 lbs (I am currently a size 16). My dress is just really good at hiding it, lol. My advice is to choose a dress that flatters your body now. That way, if you lose the weight great, but if you don't you know it will still look good on you. I picked a dress that I know will look good whether or not I lose the weight (it hides my tummy, and bonus...has a built in corset). As far as DBs selection, it is definitely worth going and trying on dresses. They probably will have a bigger selection, and you might be surprised by what you end up liking. Try on different styles to find what really works for your body. I chose a dress completely different than what I thought I wanted. Here is a picture of the dress I chose, just so you can see how (I feel) it hides my extra weight:

Picture Magic, lol, makes me look skinnier than I am Smiley winkingDavids bridal 1

PS- I did not get my dress from DB. My mother graciously bought me my dress from a bridal boutique.

I’m not a plus size bride, but I would still recommend going to your appointment and trying on different dresses. I had an idea in kind of exactly what I wanted, but when trying on dresses in some different styles, I ended up with one I absolutely love but that’s very different than what I initially thought I wanted! It’s important to keep an open mind when you go. Not every style will work, but it’s part of the process in narrowing them down to really get your perfect dress. You might not like what you see online, but they have more dresses in store and you might be pleasantly surprised with what you find!

I am a plus size bride (26) and was worried about it also. I found a couple online but not much. They actually had a very good selection in the store and were amazing at helping me find exactly what I was looking for. It definitely can’t hurt to go see...

I would say, go in with an open mind and try everything, even if you think it isn't your style. I had a terrible experience at my David's in WI but if you get someone who knows what they are doing, trust them. We all have an idea of what your perfect dress is but you never know. I always knew I'd have a strapless dress with a sweetheart neck line and no sheer/illusion fabric or lace...but I fell in love with this! I don't have a picture of me in it cause my mom was afraid my FH might see it in my phone Smiley smile

Also, Morilee is amazing and well priced, if you can find a boutique that carries it, I'd definitely suggest giving it a try.

I had a horrendous time at David's Bridal as a plus size girl. I'm a 22 in Jean's for reverence. Maybe it's because we set the budget there under 500 but oof. The samples they had for me wouldnt even zip all the way so I had the worst time picturing how the dresses might look on me in the correct size. I was honestly so embarrassed for myself.
I went to a plus size boutique and things were soooooo much better. Granted I spent 1300 on my dress....lol

One thing that has been helping me is looking at dresses on WW, and clicking on "view designer's website". Usually they have an option to search for the dress in your area! That way you can see what bridal shops the dress may be in. It's been super helpful. I'm not dress shopping until April, but I know which store I want to go to because 3 or 4 of my favorites are actually there!

I would see if there is a local Facebook group or something for your area. I know there is a NJ one and people will have suggestions. I was fortunate that we have a plus size bridal boutique that is local but had a wonderful experience trying on bridesmaids dresses at David’s so I’m sure you will be fine. If they had that many options for bridesmaids I would imagine more for brides. And you never know, I feel like a lot of the time on here I see people saying that they fell for something they never wanted after they tried it on

I did a google search in my area of places that sold plus size gowns. I collected
phone numbers and called to see if they actually had sizes for me to try on. I just said yes to the dress last weekend at the first store I shopped at. I tried on 5 or 6 gowns that all actually zipped up and were big. good luck! Hope you find Your dress!

I saw a dress online at DB and I hated it. Said I wouldn't try it on. Didn't even realize in the store that I picked that dress to try on. I bought that dress. I loved it on me. So the pictures don't really always help lol

I am a plus size bride and i'm also short. I originally bought 2 dresses online after giving them my measurements. 1 of the dresses fit 2-3 sizes too big and the other was about 2 feet too long. I decided to make an appointment at DB for the next day. After making my appointment, I went online to browse and like you, I wasn't jumping for joy over my possible choices.

Once I arrived, my sales person, Julia was amazing. She asked if I had a style in mind, a color, price range etc and she went to town. She assigned me a room and before I could get my stuff sat down good, she was standing there with 4 dresses for me.

I don't know why but plus sizes are just not very attractive online, mainly because they're advertised as a "plus size" but modeled on a size 2! None of the ones I saw on their site were ones she brought to me so I'd suggest stop looking at their website lol. Let your sales person work her magic and don't be afraid to say if you don't like something or if you want this bottom over this top etc. They will find something as close to your dream dress as possible! Good luck and I hope you say YES TO THE DRESS!! I did thanks to my Julia and her magic Smiley smile

I picked some out online to try on. When I got to the store, I didn't even try any of the ones I had picked out! You never know what you may look good in.

Disclaimer, I am not plus sized, but I went to DB as my first store just to try on different shapes and styles to see which ones I like best and what flattered me. I feel like even if you dont find the perfect dress, at least you know what style you like!

There werent any on the website that I really liked and I wanted a very Hayley Paige type dress so I figured I wouldnt find anything. I ended up falling in love with a dress that was absolutely perfect for me and everything I was looking for. Bought it that day. I bought my dress in Tampa, FL!
