Is today of coordinator and a wedding planner the same thing? I only have three Bridesmaids, no children and my Usher's are teenagers. The venue does all set up and take down the caterer will deliver the flowers and set them up where they need to be on the cake is being delivered by the local bakery do you guys think I need a coordinator or wedding planner or what's the difference

A wedding planner will communicate with your vendors before the day of. A day of coordinator is there to coordinate the day, help make it run smoothly, and take pressure off you with last minute hiccups. I would look into getting a DOC just in case you need someone there to guide all your vendors towards your goal.

They are technically 2 different things, though often a wedding planner encompasses what a DOC does. A wedding planner actually helps you plan your wedding. They will find vendors for you, help with contracts, help with style/theme/decor and be your "go to" person for everything related to your wedding. They are also there for you the day of the wedding to make sure everything runs smoothly and will be the contact person for all your vendors and guests. It is their job to take everything off you and your family so you all enjoy yourselves, stress free.

A DOC doesn't help you plan your wedding. They are there the day of (hence "day of coordinator") to do everything else (as stated above). Usually, though, they really are the "month of" coordinator because they need some prep, a head start, on all your vendors to make sure they know the ins and outs of your wedding.

I highly recommend at least hiring a DOC. If you envision having a beautiful wedding, being very calm with no stress and not having to worry about a thing - hire a DOC. They are worth it!

I was actually thinking about this. I’m thinking of looking into one to help ensure everything is where I want it to be. But I won’t have the venue the entire weekend. Which is why I’m worried.
My understanding between the difference (please anyone correct me if I’m wrong.) is a wedding planner will help you with the entire process of selecting things, finding vendors, decorating ideas, etc and day of coordinator (doc) will only be there day of wedding to make sure everything flows and things are where they need to be.

A day of coordinator makes sures the day goes smoothly. A wedding planner will help you hire vendors and design ideas, etc.

i hired a DOC and she basically took over the planning a month befor the wedding. She did all final communications with all of my vendors and worked directly with them to assemble a timeline everyone agreed on. She care to my getting ready location to make sure everyone was on schedule to go to the venue, she set up all the decorations, facilitated all vendor set up, made sure the ceremony songs and timing went smoothly, she helped herd me and my H for photos and important things like cake cutting and dances. And she cleaned up at the end of the night. She was worth every penny and th tip we gave her

Eta: Two weeks before my wedding my friendor seamstress told me she couldn’t add sleeves to my dress or put my bustle in. I called 4 places and no one could do it or do it in time, including David’s bridal. When I told her about this she called someone and her preferred seamstress cleared her schedule for me and was able to let me come in later that day and did everything I wanted for my dress. So a good DOC will be at your service a few weeks or a month before your wedding not just the day of!

Depends each company offers a different package. My venue includes day of with the venue contract and it is an extensive day of package. I get all the phone and email advice I need from the coordinator and as many walk throughs with her as I want. We do an extensive meeting a few weeks before the wedding and she takes care of vendor communication from then through the wedding day. I guess it depends on what is included in your DOC package.
