Hi all! For those that used or are going to use a DOC, what did you look for when hiring one? In my area prices range so much and I can't figure out the difference from one to the other as far as service. I am so lost!

You should ask your venue if they recommend one. My venue provides one for each bride.

Someone that you get along well with. Someone that is organized. Someone that listens to you. Someone hat is professional. These are all important things with hiring a DOC. Rebelle Fleur also made a great suggestion by asking your venue for recommendations. They have probably worked with several DOC's and will have a lot of good information for you.

We looked for a DOC specifically to set up, style, and tear down our elopement picnic while still offering a few hours of consult. My fiancé and I planned everything, and we’re currently tying up loose ends. We’ve already contacted and finalized most of our vendors; so our DOC consult hours have been mostly to solidify the vendors who were hardest to find (charcuterie style catering and additional rentals) as well as logistics.

Since we decided to elope and only really needed a bit of consultation and ~3 hours of setup (with a catering pickup), we’ve decided on a hourly package plus travel. We were quoted $150 but I’m thinking it’ll be closer to $210. Our DOC is newer to weddings but we settled on her because she was doing styled picnics prior to her wedding work (which is what we are doing for the elopement).
If you’re worried about pricing, I would recommend following FB wedding groups in your area. Some small business like to post their services and special offers on there.
