Day of hair & tipping...

ReadyToBeRebuffi, on July 18, 2018 at 9:51 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11

Hey yall! So I will be covering the hair styling cost for myself and five of my bridesmaids for my wedding... I've been quoted on how much it will cost per person, however do I tip for per person on top of the amount I was quoted or no? I'm not sure if it's the same as when you go to the salon and tip or not... I'd rather ask and make sure to plan for it than to not tip. Any advice helps! Thanks!

I tipped on the package, which covered me and my wedding party of four.

Hmm, see she didn't price like a "package" for me... she just told me the price per girl...

But you say to definitely tip? That may sound like a crazy question, because I'm use to tipping when I just go, but I didn't know if things were different when she's like giving me a quote per person for an event like that. Eeek, I'm still learning all the wedding stuff!

You're still paying a total. :-) Tip on that. And true, not every wedding vendor needs to get a tip, you should definitely tip the hair/makeup artist.

I'm not sure how much is normal to tip. I was unsure about how that works since it's already such a big amount. But the hair/makeup service I went with adds a 20% gratuity to the total service price. Not sure if that's normal but at least felt like one less thing to add to the what should I tip pile.

As a hair stylist I'd say tip them. A lot of work goes into creating the hair style you want. The same thing goes for makeup artists. I dont know if this is an independent person or someone you've hired through a salon to do your hair but, if you hired them through the salon they're likely making a very low amount per hour even if the cost per girl is higher. Most salons only pay their stylist minimum wage and there tips are what they rely on just like servers at a restaurant.

I would tip 15-20% on the total.

In the contract with my independent hair and make up artists there was a section that stated that they required at least a 15% tip because that was the industry standard.

I'm tipping 20% on the full amount for me, 8 BM and MOB/MOG. You can always adjust that amount, but I feel like 20% is pretty standard.

Yes, you should tip. The math works out the same whether you tip on each service or you tip on the total but, tipping on the total will be easier to figure out. I'd recommend tipping 15-20% for standard service and going up from there for exceptional service.
