Day of Timeline - Too Busy?

CourtneyBrittain, on July 16, 2019 at 7:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hello fellow brides & grooms. As my day is coming up in less than a month, I am trying to finalize our timeline. Can someone please let me know if this looks okay or if it's too busy? I realize that things will possibly go over or under time, especially as I have broken some parts into only 5 minute intervals. I don't want our wedding to be too rushed, but I also want people to have time to dance! Our photographer said that it looks good from her perspective, but I wanted some reassurance lol. Thanks in advance! I am open to any and all constructive criticism Smiley smile

P.S. The timeline is a 12 hour timeline from 11:30am-11:30pm as that's how long we have the venue

I think it looks good overall. Some things I noted: not a lot of time for your hair and makeup (normally takes about 2 hours just for the bride), no pictures mentioned after the ceremony, not a lot of time for you to eat, no mention of table visits/greeting guests.

My hair will take around or less than an hour, and my makeup will be started at home that morning. I'll be doing my own, and I know it'll be done within 20-30 minutes.

I have some ideas of specific photos in mind for the reception haha, but I do have a more detailed list for the photographer! They're mostly things like making sure she gets a photo of each cake, the cutting, pizza, signs, etc.

Idk when I will eat, or if I will. Everyone says there is no time, is that true?

Is that still a thing? I haven't seen any bride at the weddings I've been to recently do the visiting. If I am expected to go to each table, we can always do that in the end I guess...

We gave ourselves 1.5 hours for the dinner so we had more than enough to eat and then visit with each table. We had our photographer come with us so we could take pictures with each couple and then included these pictures in our thank you cards after the wedding. You should greet and briefly visit with each guest whether it is through a receiving line, joining them during cocktail hour, or doing table visits. My recommendation would be remove the shoe game and use this time to give yourself more time to eat and do your table visits. Your guests will appreciate you visiting with them more than they will the game, and you will appreciate having time to enjoy your food and some time to relax with your husband.

As for the pictures after the ceremony, what I meant was at the church itself. Some couples like to take formal pictures with their families inside the church. We did this and we also did a group shot with all of our guests. Not sure where you're taking your pictures earlier, but you will probably want some inside or around the church.

I hope you have a "day of coordinator" to manage this timeline. Just trying to organize people on the floor for bouquet or garter toss will probably not meet that strict timeline. However, a proper MC can keep things moving and if your photographer is good with it, it's probably fine.

Oh I see! I talked it over with my sister and understood better. We will go around the reception sight sometime during dinner and after too. Thank you for pointing that out, I totally didn't realize that was a thing! We both really want to play the shoe game, so we won't be removing it but we will make sure that we are able to make it around to each table somehow haha.

We will be doing our formal family pictures inside the chapel during that 3:45-4:45 time slot and inside the reception area from 4:45-5:20, thank you though!

Yes, we will have a DOC and an MC, both of who are good leaders and have helped with other weddings. I know the timeline won't be kept to the minute, it's just a general one Smiley smile Thank you!

Yea it looks fine to me. Be prepared for the day to go fast and for it to feel like everything didn't have enough time though aha because that's what happens when you're having fun

Personally I don't think you need a detailed timeline for the ceremony itself but if that's what works for you then I think it's fine. It seems like a lot but when you are actually going through it all it will seem like a good flow.
