Day of wedding planner/coordinator

Jordan, on May 14, 2019 at 8:46 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 22
Has anyone had or have a day of wedding coordinator? My venue provides one but I’m thinking someone who looking out for me and what I want rather than just the venues interest. If so, how much did you pay and exactly what service do they provide?

I've looked into them, but haven't hired one. So I don't feel comfortable answering the question.
But, if you're provided one, consider talking to them and figuring out what all they will do for you. We decided our venue coordinator would do enough for us without us needing to spend extra.

We’re paying $1300 for our DOC and she brings two assistants. Our venue is very DIY so we felt like it was necessary. All they provide is the building, tables, and chairs. Our DOC will arrive at the same time as us and handle all of the setup and vendor coordination while we get ready. She’ll be in charge of finalizing the timeline and making sure we stick to it. If we have to do an indoor ceremony, her and her team will flip the venue during cocktail hour. Then they’ll be in charge of all of the cleanup and tear down.

We hired a DOC and its totally worth it! She has helped out so much with little questions I have about the wedding and will make sure everything flies smoothly the day of the wedding. She will direct everyone and keep everything on schedule.

I hired a wedding planner to help me with the whole process. She has been wonderful so far & her & an assistant will be there day of wedding. Mine cost $2200, but she is always quick to respond & gives great recommendations on vendors. She meets with me every couple months since my wedding is still over a year out.

I think if the venue provides a DOC, it is tough not to use her. She will be familiar with what is allowed (as in no rice, no sparklers). She will be familiar with where to tell the band, florist to park and unload. She will be familiar with the security and parking arrangements. Just my 2 cents.

I have an amazing wedding event coordinator. Her name is Kenya Thomas from Entrusted Moments in Southeastern Michigan. She handles the wedding rehearsal, manages the vendors, all decor, ceremony timing, program and basically calming my nerves. She's amazing and she's a woman-owned business. I'm never comfortable about sharing prices online but if you're interested in learning about her, I will send you her contact information.

I wouldn't rule out the event coordinator provided by the venue until she gives you reason to. Yes, she works for the venue, but the venue wants to make it's customers happy so that give good reviews which leads to more business. My venue's event coordinator has been wonderful. She has answered all my questions in a timely manner and has been very honest every step of the way. I know not all are, so I would feel this person before dropping extra cash.

The reason I’m unsure about the venue coordinator is because apparently they aren’t the same person I’ve been dealing with during planning. The guy who’s been there for the planning stated that they will give me a coordinator for day of. So it’ll be someone else, not him.

Interesting. For me, it's the same person. Can you ask him to meet the other person? It's a little odd that they would just throw a stranger in there instead of just having the person who's been through it all with you and understands your plan.

I kind of get that. The person who is my contact for our venue is not the person that will be assigned to us on the day. This is the difference between the full time person and this other person is probably hourly. However, he or she is really just there if I have questions or someone needs help with anything that pertains to the venue (as well as make sure nothing goes crazy probably as they had had those problems in the past). This person is not someone who will be setting up and all that. I would ask your venue what this person actually will be doing because maybe there is a miscommunication between what you think is a coordinator (which is what we all think when we hear that word) and what they mean. They can just be using the word in a different meaning and then you do not want to be screwed the day of.

I hired a month of coordinator. I mainly need her for the day, but the month of was my smallest option. Our venue is not a traditional venue and everything will be rented so someone has to set up everything else and all that to make it nice. I do not want to be doing that at all so I hired someone to take care of all that stuff! Our wedding is in North Carolina and her package came under $2,000, but that was consistent (and the cheaper but she had the best reviews) of the other ones I contacted.

My venue has a coordinator but I hired a DOC but she is really like a month of coordinator. The coordinator at my venue is there to make sure that everything that they are responsible for gets done. Like setting up the tables and the dance floor, the food and bar, etc. But she has said she isn't allowed to set out centerpieces or pretty much touch anything that isn't what the venue provides. I would check and see about the extent of the venue's provided coordinator before deciding - but if it is minimal involvement then I would definitely hire someone. I paid $700.

We are paying $340 for our DOC + more for rental of some décor items from her. We decided to hire her when we realized the DOC for our venue is completely useless. Basically she is our POC for the venue while planning and that is it. She will not set our décor we bring in (Mr. & Mrs. sign, guest book, unplugged ceremony sign etc.) she will not direct our guests where to go or when to be seated. she will not make sure everyone finds their seats or that we are running on time. Our DOC does all of that and so much more (plan day of and rehearsal timeline, brings breakfast for the wp, helps us get staged for photos, heck she even said she can steam my dress if I needed it lol)

If the venue is providing one then I don’t know why you would get another one...they usually include it in your price. Their purpose is to help you on your day.

I would still get my own. My venue offers one and I hired my own. Yes they know the layout etc. but they are there for the best interest of the venue, not yours. If there are any problems your DOC would be the one the venue would speak to and they would handle it without you knowing there's a problem and being stressed. My DOC will run the rehearsal the night before and run everything the day of. I paid $500 but others tried to charge me over $1000.

I am . They're doing setup and teardown. I don't have to buy any of the decorations. They are handling all of the details I wouldn't think of. Mine hasn't given me cost yet - but I live in a more rural area so our prices are not like major city - so I can't help you on that . I just recommend it if you can squeeze it into your budget. :-)

I'm worried about this too, because I've heard a lot of horror stories about the ones the venues provide. A lot of times, they are there to collect a paycheck, but they don't really give a darn if your wedding goes smoothly. They aren't helpful at all.

I just don't want to have to deal with anything on the day of besides getting married. That's why I'm considering hiring my own DOC, to make sure that things go smoothly, and any hiccups will be dealt with by someone other than me!

I think it depends on the feel of the venue's coordinator. I'm getting married at a Jeffrey A Miller catering venue, and throughout the whole planning process, the manager and my coordinator have been AMAZING in how much they've helped. I genuinely feel they're putting my best interests first, so I don't feel to much of a need to hire an outside coordinator. However, if you feel yours isn't as invested, you should look into hiring one. It really depends on how much they've shown they can be trusted to put you and your partner first!

We're hiring a day of coordinator for $750....but thats only for 9-5.....she considers it a half day. Basically, I just hired her to keep the dysfunctional narcissistic part of my family in check so they dont ruin our day. Anything else she does for us is gravy to me. ....But seriously, she offers consultation, wedding day itinerary, vendor management for the day, rehersal, collection of items after event, recieving deliveries, final payment distribution, ceremony set up, emergency kit, distribution of all florals, greeting guests, lining up and cueing processional, prepping bride for processional, gathering people for pics, etc.
