DC-Specific Favors

Dana, on May 4, 2013 at 1:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

DC Brides! Can any of you recommend a DC-specific favor? I'm getting married in my hometown, but I wanted to incorporate DC into the favors somehow, as that's where my FH live and have lived for several years.

I LOVED the idea of white chocolate capitol domes (pictured) but those suckers are $10 each! I need at least 125 favors. Call me crazy, but I can't (and won't) spend $1250 on chocolate. Does anyone else have suggestions for some other way to incorporate the Capitol or something DC-specific into our favors? Thanks ladies!!

If you like the idea of chocolate, you could make them yourself. Here's a link for a White House chocolate mold.

    Hope this helps!

Is there a candy company or bakery that is well known to locals but maybe not to everyone else? What about a smaller theme related chocolate?

what about doing them yourself, these molds are inexpensive

Thanks, ladies! I should mention that I can't really DIY the favors because I live in a small apartment and share freezer space .... so freezing them and storing them would be really problematic for me.

You don't freeze chocolate anyway it causes it to turn

Can you store them at someone else's house?

What about something local like I said before?

    Maybe something cherry blossom-related?

Thanks, MissB! The place where I took the picture is my local chocolate shop, sadly Smiley sad

Do they have other options? Something smaller perhaps? What about a small chocolate with a cool sticker on the box instead?

In looking for things that might work for you I came across this printable favor box label, regardless of what you pick:

    http://www.unitedwithlove.com/2013/04/02/free-printable-for-washington-dc-wedding/

The link for the free printable is below the pics on this web page.

I was trying to think of little bite-sized options that really say "DC" but not much is coming to mind. There's a famous caramel company that was based in DC/Silver Spring called Velatis; they've been around for decades.

Berger cookies come to mind - mini ones would be cute - but they're really a Baltimore thing.

There's Georgetown Cupcake (they'll ship to you and would be cheaper than $10 each I'd think, even w/ shipping included).

    Good luck!

I would get in touch with one of the food companies that you are talking to and see if they have any options in your price range. That way they could also package it and deliver it to the venue if you wanted... saves a task!

Also if you have any amish markets around you then you may want to check them out. I know the one near me had white chocolate candy in all sort of shapes for $0.9 each. I got a rooster and a car. Both were really yummy, a good size, and not hollow.

You could check out this site, which has a lot of DC-themed items:

Okay, the cherry idea got me thinking. What if the wedding cake was designed with the following photo as an example (obviously larger), then branches of a cherry tree were carefully laid out with individually wrapped chocolate cherries placed within the twigs? You would not believe the amount of cherry tree favors and decorations are available to run with.

And if you think this idea is crazy, it's why I shouldn't be on the internet so late at night Smiley smile

Okay, so I still have not given up hope on the chocolate idea! You all have given some great options to explore. Thank you!!

Just wanted to get some honest feedback on this idea, as well: http://www.discountfavors.com/i15090/Capitol-Dome-Stress-Relievers#Colors

We could include a little note with these that says something like "Please come visit us at our home in the nation's capital!"

Cheesy or fun? Please be honest. My major draw here is that I can get 150 for about $400 ... and every guest could get a favor at their seat. Your thoughts, please Smiley smile

I would personally rather have chocolate than the stress ball thing, I have a ton of those and they end up going to the cats as toys.
