Deadline to purchase Wedding Insurance?

Lori, on October 14, 2018 at 10:44 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 7

Hi All - I am reviewing quotes for different policies with different vendors, but I can't seem to get a definitive answer on how soon before my event I need to purchase a policy. I'm assuming there are some general practices here (and understand each carrier would be different), but does anyone know if I'm under a time crush for a May 2019 wedding?

I'm in the process of researching for our April wedding. I know our ceremony and reception site both require proof by a month out. I'm not sure how standard that is but I'm trying to lock it in before the holidays, if possible. I don't think it's something that really needs to be done super ahead of time, at least according to our venue. I hope that helps!

I was told by our vendor and 2 others we looked at insurance needed to locked within 90 days latest, but they preferred signing at contract .

Pur venue wanted us to have it submitted to them atleast 2 weeks before. It was a quick process to sign up and receive the certificate. It only took 24hrs. I would just say in generally have everything finished atleast 2 weeks out so you dont have to stress about anything else. Theres no limit on how soon you buy it for most Insurance companies. You have a decent amount of time to get everything done. The insurance was easiest and quick so dont stress that one.

I believe you can get the liability insurance up until very close to your wedding date. If you’re interested in the kind that covers ‘cancellation’ (not cold feet, but vendors going out of business, weather disasters, stolen gifts, broken equipment, etc) that needs to be done a bit further in advance. I think the website we bought our insurance from required no less than 14 days before the event for the ‘cancellation’ one.

It's in case something happens before or during your wedding, you won't lose out on a ton of money. It could be the wedding gets cancelled, a person damages something, a bummer of things. Depends on the policy, but you could get your deposits and other stuff reimbursed. Don't plan a wedding without it because it's extremely cheap in comparison
