Decorating bathroom help

Lalaluna, on August 17, 2018 at 11:54 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 27

The bathrooms at our venue need serious attention (honestly need to be completely redone) and I'm trying to figure out some ways to liven them up with inexpensive details. The bathroom stalls are a horrible red color and some of the paint is cracking, the counters need to be redone, and there are old carpets and a bench that are decrepit. We didn't see them until after we booked the venue and were planning, and I was horrified! I already have the makings of baskets for the ladies/mens rooms with things to freshen up (nicer soap, mints, ibuprofen, tums, feminine hygiene products, hairspray etc.) If we have any extra eucalyptus and flowers left over I can put them in a vase in each of the bathrooms too but that's not guaranteed. Any other ideas would be appreciated! I was thinking of doing something like the picture attached with tulle and flowers instead of burlap bows to help add some pretty details, but I have no idea how much tulle to buy for each stall? Has anyone done this before? How much fabric did you need for each one? I have nothing to practice on so I have no way to estimate! Thanks in advance Smiley smile

I wouldn’t stress over the bathroom. Maybe add any extra flowers like you mentioned, but it seems like the stalls would take a fair bit of work. It won’t be what your guests remember 😊

I don’t think decorating the bathroom is necessary at all. Plus, think of all the germs that will be on your decor (yuck!). Most people don’t care what the bathroom looks like, especially after a few drinks. They just need a place to go, and they’ll only be there for a few hours anyway. An amenities basket is nice and all, again not necessary, but I’ve never really seen anyone use them. If I were you I’d save my time, money, and headaches over this. If you really want to decorate, I’d say just go for a vase or two of flowers on the counter and maybe the amenties basket. In my opinion, no amount of tulle will distract from an outdated bathroom. 🤷🏾‍♀️

The pictures you have are pretty. Smiley smile I don't think those options would be too expensive.

Thanks! Fortunately the coordinator said that they will take care of it all the day of (I guess other brides have requested the same thing) so it won't be something we have to worry about having enough time/energy to do! I even offered but was told that they'll do it all! just have no clue how much tulle to buy! There are 3 stalls in each bathroom!

Just look online to see how long a typical stall is. Or go measure. Multiple by 2 for rash for each door and then by 6 for all the stalls. And give your self a bit extra

I honestly think these pictures draw more attention to the fact that they’re not nice bathrooms. They look out of place. I think adding flowers to the counter is a nice touch, but other than that I’d just let them be.

I personally wouldn't care about the bathroom. I mean, people are just going in there to use the bathroom. The only thing I would care about is the bathroom not being dirty and nasty. But the bathroom isn't apart of the ceremony or reception so I wouldn't be decorating it lol.

I would just skip decorating the stalls. I think it draws attention to the bathroom and people don't want to remember their time in the bathroom. Maybe just some flowers and the amenity baskets.

No ne is going to say anything about the bathrooms. Most adults have been to various events and have used port a johns to elaborate stalls. All a guests cares about is that there is somewhere to go and it is clean. Air conditioning/heating is added benefit but other than that I wouldn't decorate the doors.

I agree with this. I think it looks really strange to decorate the stalls like this. Just add a nice vase of flowers on the counter, include your bathroom basket, and be done with it. That's what I did.

A lot of people are saying people won’t care about the bathroom so I guess I’m the odd woman out. A gross bathroom would make me cringe and I’d hold my pee until I could get back to a hotel/my house Lololol. Thank you for considering your guests like me!!

I would care if the bathroom were gross but I wouldn't care if the bathroom was fancy. I would take a clean but dated restroom over a dirty one with modern decor any day! But I'm assuming they are neat and clean or this would be a post about disinfectant or something and not about decorating, heh.

That said, if you have the budget and it makes you happy, why not decorate?? I prefer the flowers over the ribbon but I'm sure that would cost more. As for how much tulle you'll need... hmmm... the doors are probably 5 feet tall and you might want to go around them twice (10 feet) 3 stalls per bathroom (30 feet per restroom would mean 60 feet plus you may want to get a bit extra just in case. I would get 12 yards if you want a double layer of tulle.

Also for what's its worth, if you have to choose between the decorations and the toiletries basket, I would prioritize the basket first. I would get more use out of that as a guest.

Thanks everyone! I know the majority said it's not worth the cost, but a 40yd bolt of tulle is only $12 on amazon, I think it's worth it! I'm gonna get that which will be PLENTY so I won't now have to worry about measuring everything and getting it cut. I also have about a dozen dollar store flowers from a different craft I won't get around to until after the wedding anyway! Even though the bathrooms were clean and sanitary, the fact that they're so old make it feel dirty to me so I think the little details will help at least brighten it up. I only spent $10 on each of the baskets so I think in the grand scheme of things it will be ok! Thanks everyone for your help and input!

Again I agree...if it’s old and outdated it makes it feel dirty. Again thanks for taking the time to think of your guest. I think you are doing thdon’t right thing if you can fit it into your budget.

Yea we are different. Gross yes can be dirty but also as in they don’t look updated and modern (paint chipping, counters needing to be redone has me thinking old cracked caulk, rust, being able to tell the carpet is old, decrepit bench). When things look old and outdated they can sometimes make things appear dirty even if they aren’t. I’d cringe and would not want to use the bathroom whatsoever.

No I see what you mean. I re-read the original post. It sounds like it's not just dated but also in need of maintenance and repair =/.

Maybe call the venue and ask them to measure the doors? Good luck and congratulations on your special day!

I feel bad she didn’t get to see this before booking. I’m so OCD I know. When I went on my venue tour I was stalking the bathrooms and every crevice of the venue hahaha.

Congratulations on your engagement!! Much success and happiness on your special day Rachel :-)

Anything you do, short of a remodel, will only draw attention to the issues. As long as they are clean, don't give it another thought. Honestly, I'd think it was weird to see any restroom decorated no matter what condition they were in

Thanks everybody! Cost isn’t an issue and I seriously thing decorating the doors and adding a little bit to each room will help distract rather than draw attention to the flaws and give me peace of mind. This was more about how to do it rather than if I should! I understand everyone be has different tastes and opinions and that’s what makes everyone’s special day so lovely and unique! Congratulations to everyone and thanks so much! Smiley smile
