Decorating for informal rehearsal dinner?

KlassyLady, on October 20, 2014 at 12:26 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

Okay guys, I admit I'm pretty dumb when it comes to this wedding planning stuff, so this may be a dumb question, but do I need to decorate for the rehearsal dinner? We plan for it to be an informal, very relaxed atmosphere and are holding it at the church. I thought maybe just tablecloths, but our tablecloths for the reception are for round tables, and I'd hate to invest more money into additional linens since the tables at the church are rectangular. Thoughts?

Nope, you don't need to decorate if you don't want to. We just had pizza and sodas in the house where everyone was staying, and it was fine.

2d Bride - Thank you! We are also doing the whole low key pizza and soda thing. I was afraid to put that in the initial post as someone might tell me that it's "tacky."

I don't think you do. Some people might. Just went to a wedding a few weeks ago that the rehearsal had some treats on the tables and some balloons.

We are doing our rehearsal as a late night beer and pizza party at a pub...so the only decor that I know of is the koozies I am bringing that say "to have and to hold and to keep cold".

Personally, I would at least invest in some colored paper tablecloths, but no, you really don't need to for the rehearsal dinner especially if it's informal.

@Monica- I actually thought about just getting some paper ones from the dollar store, so I'm glad to see your suggestion. I was just concerned I was expected to use legit linens and other décor that I haven't budgeted for.

*edited because I left a word out haha

I bought some black and white damask ones for a recent work party from the Dollar Tree and they looked great!

I agree with @Monica on the colored paper tablecloths. I love going to the Dollar store because you never know what great stuff you can find!

Nope, ours is Halloween, so we are having some halloween themed items as photobooth props, but besides that nothing.

We are probably just hosting ours at a restaurant near the venue, so no decorations for us!

Don't stress over a rehearsal dinner. It is perfectly acceptable to host an incredibly casual RD with pizza. As long as you have food and drink for your guests and aren't asking anyone to bring covered dishes, you are completely fine. That being said, it would be my preference to add inexpensive plastic/paper tablecloths to the tables. Is it required? No, but it just looks prettier.

Are your in-laws helping with the rehearsal dinner? Traditionally it is one thing that the groom's family handles. Maybe you can ask them to put something together.

    But no, its not required.

Seriously, isn't the Dollar Store one of the best things? I used to think it was all crappy stuff, but I was wrong.

Our RD is at a local BBQ restaurant. I was thinking about bringing in a few vases made out of painted spaghetti sauce jars with a few fresh flowers in each. Laid back, DIY-style.

I LOVE the Dollar Store, and I am glad to see that so many other ladies are too!

@ Staci - FH's family has not mentioned helping with the rehearsal dinner. We have even discussed our plans for it (that'd it'd just be pizza, casual, etc)., and they didn't mention helping at all. So I'm guessing we're on our own for the rehearsal dinner.

I'd suggest the dollar store. Get some plastic table clothes from there and maybe even some little centerpieces... see what your store has.

You don't NEED decorations, but it makes it look pretty, even if it's informal. Those general use spaces look so blah.

Our rehearsal dinner was very casual and we did not decorate. It was held in a very cool pub in downtown Denver - all the bars (and it was huge, multi-rooms with multiple bars) were originally from Ireland and had been taken apart/rebuilt here in the US. We had a room reserved for us. I liked the space how it was, so we left it that way!

We had a super casual rehearsal dinner - pizza, chips, beer, soda. We didn't decorate anything other than some festive napkins.
