Decorating Reception without using the Celling or Walls

Tiffany, on May 13, 2010 at 9:48 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 21

I definitely need to add some decorations to our reception site, I like the tulle & lights idea however, our venue does not allow us to attach anything to the walls or cellings. Any ideas on how to work around that?

You could use pipe and drape along the walls.

Use mid height trees like Ficus. There are hundreds of varieties and they come in different shapes and sizes already potted so you can easily move them around. Go to any local flower or garden center they should have them. You could also get cute ceramic pots for more decoration or wrap the black plastic pot they come in with ribbon. I sell some that are between 3 and 5 feet tall so it will fill an open space very well. See if you can “rent” them from a garden center. Unless you want to keep them of course.

What about columns of different heights with some sort of plant on them... maybe Mums in the fall? you could wrap the columns in christmas lights and string from one to another with some tulle and/or ribbon in there...

A lot of rental companies rent Grecian columns that you can hang things from. They are usually around $200 for a 6 piece set in my area, not sure if this would apply where you are or not.

Drapery can be expensive, especially to cover all 4 walls. I would consider lighting first (although we do a lot of drapery, too). Uplights are fine, but there's so much else that could be done, including pattern projections, columns, color washing, etc.

Uplighting would be really nice, but be ready to spend a good chunk of change for this service.

First find out if it is ok to attach things to the walls and ceilings as long as you do no damage. I decorate, quite often, with 3m hooks which come away clean and put no holes or tears on/in surface areas. If they will not allow that, then go with renting plants, pillars, and event pipe and drape. Rope lights with paper lanterns, as well as greenery can be hung from the pipes and other decor can be attached. Plants and pillars can be filled with LED lights and pillars can also be interspersed with tables and serve as stands for more plants or centerpieces. Last, but certainly not least. Hire a lighting designer to do uplights on your walls. My last reception I was in a completely brand new structure that did not allow for any damage or nail holes. I used 3m hooks, but also had the walls uplit for a beautiful effect.

We just joined Wedding Wire with our new product - Wallberries. They really do bring new possibilities to decorating for weddings. They are removable, reusable clear supports for smooth surfaces including ceilings and walls. I decorate for my job and needed something that I could use to change the decor frequently. Nothing was on the market that worked, so I started making Wallberries. I am not at my computer now, but I will attach photos later this evening. Check us out at www.wallberries.com

I am choosing 3 examples of projects using Wallberries. 1st a sample of the HOPE ROPE created for the Martha Stewart Sisterhood of Dreamers into Doers in January. The fabric braid was applied using Wallberries and shows the versatility they offer. I will also attach a ceiling medallion created with ivy garland, crystal garland and 8 wallberries. The pic of the Christmas Garland with lights was taken this past Christmas. Wallberries are brand new and I am doing my 1st Wedding with them in June. More pics to come! The possibilities are endless. We would be happy to send your venue samples to verify they will not damage the surfaces that they are applied to.
