Decorating the church...

FutureMrsKC, on February 23, 2018 at 12:17 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 17

Is this really necessary? We are getting married in the church FH grew up in. We have a welcome sign that will go out by the entrance. I have a master checklist of things for our reception site, but I'm stuck on decor for the church. We aren't using a florist so I'm on my own here. Realistically, we're walking down the isle, having a 15/20 minute ceremony and then everyone is leaving to go to the reception.

What do I really need? We are using a lot of eucalyptus and I was thinking of hanging some in small bunches with tulle from the pews towards the front of the church, but I don't want to spend too much money on church decor that few will notice. What did/are you doing?

We're kind of in the same boat. Catholic church, so the mass will be about an hour, but still. We will most likely do some sort of pew decor, and might do every other pew because it's a big church. I'm really hoping there is an earlier wedding that does flowers, lol, but that's a long shot. Anyway, I think you're fine with what you have planned.

I'm not decorating our church mostly due to logistics. Our church does 2 weddings, and we are the later wedding (we are at 3 and there will be another couple before us at 1). They get the church until 2:30, so the timing just wouldn't work very well to set anything up inside. I don't think it's necessary to decorate the church especially because most of them have a natural beauty anyways.

We are doing zero decorations at our church. They have a lot of restrictions that can be done and I see it as an unnecessary expense since the ceremony will be 30 minutes long. The church is beautiful on its own and we decided to focus on the reception space since flower centerpieces were something that were important to me.

Our church won't let us and Honestly, I'm thrilled. It's a gorgeous church with natural beauty. We are Catholic as well so just two arrangements for the altar and one for the virgin Mary and we are set. Saved so much time and money! Bonus, our church coordinator works part time at the florist so we don't have to worry about setup Smiley smile

We are trying to figure it out too. We have free range to decorate the church. So I'm thinking every other pew and two arrangements for the altar. I also will be making a Welcome Wedding Sign w/ program to put in the entrance of the church.

I used garlands to drape over the pews and then repurposed these garlands as my reception centerpieces. I also had flameless candles going down the aisle which we also used again at the reception. Since we had a Christmas wedding, the church already had some beautiful Christmas decorations so other than adding a welcome sign out front, that's all I did.

I did all my own decor, no florals, and we choose not to decorate the synagogue we got married in. We even had a very simple chuppah, nothing elaborate. I love the way everything turned out. The flowers you see in the picture are the standard arrangements they usually have.

We didn't decorate the church at all. At the end of our meeting with our pastor to discuss the results of the FOCCUS test, he gently reminded us that the church should not be viewed as a venue but as the House of God so we should keep the decorations to a minimum.

I've seen people decorate the pews of other churches before.

Do you plan to use anything at the reception that could do double duty?

Many brides use the same floral arrangements in the altar area as they use on the gift and guestbook tables.

We planned to do nothing. The architecture at the church is amazing and nothing is reallyed needed. However, their arrangements for the Sunday service arrived early and they allowed us to use them. They were stunning and we basically got $1,000 worth of florals for free.

Our venue is really pretty with a nice view, so we opted out of any decorations. Smiley smile

Simple is sometimes better, I heard of a bride who used candles and her dress caught fire. Let the church shine on its own 😊

I've seen some gorgeous church decor, but for my wedding we skipped this. The church was pretty on its own, and this was one place I could save a little money and keep one thing off my to-do list. It was just much easier to not have to plan who would set up the decorations and who would stay behind to clean them up after. What does his church look like? If you want to include eucalyptus what about making some little weaths to hang on the pew ends, or circling some (probably flameless depending on their rules) candles with eucalyptus?

I grabbed a few looks from Pinterest:

I love that look! Any tips?! I'm planning on using these for the little ones with a metal round hoop.

We are having a private ceremony at our church, and then having a big reception right afterwards. Our ceremony decor will match our reception decor. We will have roses, candles, and the sand ceremony.

I spray painted embroidery hoops gold, and I'm just using hot glue to attach all the faux greenery and flowers. It's time consuming but not too difficult!
