Decoration ideas

Our theme is the 50s. Looking for some decoration ideas. I have always loved the 50s era dresses. We both enjoy the doo wop era music. Two of my favorite movies are Grease and Hairspray.

Venue for ceremony & reception is in the same building. It was a bar when I was growing up. We can decorate however we want but can't use anything that can damage the building (tape, nails, tacks, glitter, etc).
Any decoration ideas?

When I think 50s, there are a couple of directions you could go in.

One is like... tiki bar. So, wiggle dresses with tropical prints, tiki head glasses or statues, leis, surfboards, pineapples, flamingoes and rattan furniture (which you can find for pretty cheap in op shops and dollar stores!)

the other would be like... high school sock hop slash diner style! So, high school pennants, check print or plaid, alcoholic ice cream floats, records and record player or a jukebox, one of those wooden coca-cola boxes, maybe sliders served as a late night snack, etc.

Here are some pics I found to inspire you.

Wonderful ideas! At first we were keeping things rustic, but with us waiting until next year he said it can be my dream wedding.

Hairspray is actually set in the 1960s, if you want to research some 60s era decor ideas as well as 50s. Smiley smile Sounds like a fun theme!

I would suggest basing it off actual 1950s decor. So maybe pastels and prints like atomic stars, checkers and stripes. You could also use flowers like carnations in maybe some vintage vases from the 50s.

I think your wisteria color would look gorgeous with the 50s theme.

Our local reception was a swanky 50’s/60’s theme! Instead of table numbers we used a frame with a B&W photo of a singer from that era. We bought bubble candles from the Dollar store for the cocktail tables. And vases with feathers (like nightclubs). And fake cigarettes for the guests (adult reception). And we hired a live band and Frank Sinatra impersonator. Hope those might give you some ideas!

I'm leaning towards songs from that era for the reception. Oooh, I love the cardboard cut out. I wonder who I should get. I got an Elvis one for my mom's 60th birthday.
