Who delayed their honeymoon (aka did not go directly after your wedding)? Would you recommend it?

We went on our HM about 2 months after we got married, because it was way cheaper then. We found a great deal for flights, and decided to go for it!

I didn't really mind going back to the "real world" right after the wedding, but I'm a student, so it might be more annoying for people who work in offices.

Absolutely not would I delay my honeymoon! I don't care if it's a vacation or a stay-cation, but I need at least a week of uninterrupted alone time with my new husband. 27 years is a long time! lol

We haven't left on our HM yet. Honestly, I wish we would have left right after the wedding. I feel like we really are missing out on that newlywed honeymoon feeling. We went back to day to day routines and I'm extra feeling those post wedding blues. I feel bad saying it but it's true. If you are able to go right away, do it!

At first we were going to do ours 6 months later. FH god mom gifted us her timeshare to where ever. I think we are going to use the timeshare right after our wedding for a week and then pay for our own trip over new years at the end of the year for another week! While we would love to do a 2 week honeymoon our jobs are not that flexible so its better to do one week and then months later another week. We also have to figure out what to do with our dog.

We're delaying and taking our "honeymoon" as an anniversary trip in a year. We DID, though, drive away to a B&B for three days after the wedding. It's all we could afford to do time or money wise, but I HIGHLY recommend taking at least a day or two somewhere private after the wedding. It was such an emotionally charged time, I would have been a complete mess if I'd tried to go directly back into normal life without any kind of a buffer.

We are getting married next weekend and going on our honeymoon the week of Thanksgiving. I have Thanksgiving and the day after off so I figured I would use those days towards our honeymoon.

My FH wants to wait 2-3 months for us to go on our honeymoon. It will be cheaper and most kids will be back in school and we'll have a better time having it in the fall. Smiley smile

Well we were planning on going to Disneyland but I don't think that's happen of now...if you read my previous posted post you would know why. Anyways, I'll be happy with just a quick weekend away too. It's not about how extravagant or exciting the honeymoon is, it's about spending quality time with your new spouse.

Frugal gator - you're a "wait till you're married" couple right? My ex and I were that way. Just a word of advice, don't spend a ton of money on a honeymoon because you probably won't leave the hotel room, ha. Seriously, you'll be so infatuated with each other, even just the basics of waking up together, that you won't pay attention to much else.

We are taking three days off post wedding and going to camp or go to Niagara Falls possibly, and then taking our "real" honeymoon in November after our wedding. I wanted to take a specific cruise and it isn't offered in the summer, but I'm glad because it gives us extra saving time and we will still have a few days to enjoy being married before heading back.

We left for the honeymoon two days after the wedding and I'm happy we did. We rested, opened gifts, and got to spend time with family. It was worth it.

We delayed our honeymoon because DH is an Executive Sous Chef, and working in the restaurant business just sucks to begin with. We are going in January because that is his slow season, plus the holiday parties are coming, and it would be impossible for him to get even a week off from work. Plus hes passionate about his job, so its hard to pry him away from it once and a while. I'm kind of glad we delayed because it feels like it would be a little stressful to pack right away and just go!

We are going the next day. its a resort about an hour and a half south from home so just far enough away to be alone. we have to be out of the hotel by 11 anyway so we might as well go straight there!

We are taking ours in January.

Pros: don't have to jump on a plane right after the wedding, something to look forward to in the coming months, works better in our work schedules

Cons: I am not in work mode right now and would rather be sitting on a beach with a drink in my hand.

We didn't take a honeymoon right away. Since hubby is an OTR truck driver, we had to regroup on funds. We did take a mini moon (extended weekend) at the end of September to Gatlinburg, TN and ended up putting an offer on a house! Only 6 months married and hopefully if all goes well, by 11/16 we will be home owners. There is never a good time, but sometimes you just got to jump at an opportunity when it's a good one! My hubby says that we will have many more mini moons, which is okay by me.

To the couples delaying your honeymoon, are you taking any time off immediately after the wedding too?

@SwoleMates, we are a "wait til your married" couple. Believe me, I've thought about that, lol. FH wanted to go to Hawaii (we live in Maryland), and I was like "I am not spending that much money and time getting to a place just so we can spend most of the time in the hotel room. Plus, I really want to experience Hawaii. Can we do that for a different vacation?" We're probably going to get an interior cabin on a cruise ship since their really cheap out of the Florida ports (we're getting married in Florida). FH wants there to be some stuff to do so he can recover Smiley winking and there's unlimited food!

We'll be honeymooning a few months after the wedding. As long as he can get the pre-approval for time off we'll be going in February before I'm too far along to cruise.

I did! I like our timing because it still feels like a honeymoon (vs. a year later feels more like an anniversary trip).

We are going next week! 6 weeks after our wedding. We delayed mostly because fall is beautiful in MN and we wanted to wait until it was cold to leave since we only get a few good months here.

We decide on 6 weeks because we both have filing deadlines for our jobs between Nov 1 and Nov 10. So we are going Nov 11 to 18.

I am glad I waited because 1. something to look forward to after digesting the wedding and 2. We both were so tired the first 3 days after our wedding and got sick after that for a week. So had our honeymoon been then, it wouldve been boring. Now we are refreshed and excited!

Waiting a month because we got a better deal. But we are doing 3 days alone at a hotel before heading back to work.

@frugal_gator I took Monday off after the wedding and then came back to work. Unfortunately my vacation time doesn't renew until April, so I had to make sure I had enough time left over for the honeymoon in January.
