As luck would have it, I am due to get my period THE DAY OF MY WEDDING! Has anyone done or used anything to naturally delay their period? I am not on birth control so I am looking for another way. I have been reading about Shepards Purse which is an herb that is suppose to help delay it. Has anyone used this or have any advice? It wouldn't be a huge deal if my period wasn't super painful and heavy!

I literally know nothing about the pill? How does this stop it? For how long?

I've never heard of Shepard Purse but I would not be trying out something new the week of my wedding. What if you have an allergic reaction to it or it doesn't sit well with your body?

Just make sure you get monophasic if you get the pill. That's very important!!! All you do is skip your placebo pills and start your next pack right away. Worked like a charm. This DOES NOT WORK for triphasic though! If your pills are different color for each week don't do it.

Birth control is the only way to delay your period. Since you're not on it now I would look into getting on it until after your wedding. I can't do pills because I'm horrible at taking them so I use the nuvaring. I know exactly when I'll start and when I stop. Luckily it won't be on my wedding or honeymoon. But I've had to just leave the ring in the week it's supposed to be out and no problems. 3 weeks in. 1 week out. Skip the week out to delay the period. Easy.

Courtney- the pill stops ovulation so your uterine lining doesn't build up for the egg. The "period" you get is really just withdrawal bleeding from stopping the hormones for a week on the placebo pills. It's usually lighter anyway since the lining hadn't built up all month. So if you just keep taking the regular hormone pills instead of the placebo, you don't typically get a period.

I wouldn't recommend starting BC pills 3 months before your wedding. It took me 3 months to adjust to the hormones and I was a crazy person, my face broke out, and I had massive food cravings. It all leveled out after about 3 months but I can not imagine adding that to the stress of a wedding. Some people do just fine when they start but some people experience side effects like mine. I would just get one of those menstrual cups that can stay in for 12 hours and take some Midol.

Will you want to start TTC immediately after the wedding? If so, remember that some bc can mess with your system. I've been off mine for 6 months and still have not ovulated. It's really frustrating waiting for a period that you desperately want to come.
