Delta variant-should i worry

Susan, on July 18, 2021 at 11:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 18
I am starting to get worried about this Delta Variant. My wedding was cancelled 2 years ago with Covid and now hearing how bad this Delta Variant is getting is making me nervous again. We are going to Cancun to try again in April 2021. Anyone else feeling worried again?

Definitely feeling worried 😕 I’m just hoping the new booster vaccine that is meant to have greater protection against the Delta variant comes out soon & is effective

I meant April 2022. But thanks for the response. I think hoping the new booster works is a good way to think about it…

I knew what ya meant so you’re okay! My date is next May so we’re both in the same boat. I wouldn’t worry too much about it yet, but I also understand that’s way easier said than done.

It’s just so frustrating because I thought this was getting close to done, then I am hearing all this again. We cancelled 2 years ago and I was devastated. But, we at least have some time ahead of us to see what they might do to handle the variant. Part of me thinks the media likes to make it sound worse than it is. I’m in Minnesota where over 70 percent are vaccinated. Here’s to us, not trying to worry too much!! 😀

Not worried at all. There will always be a new strain, just like the flu. We're in Texas so I'm confident Greg won't fall for it and shut us down for nothing again.

I’m getting married October in California and yes I am worried that many people who RSVPed yes will back out. My family keeps sending me emails and texts about vaccinated people with breakthrough infections. They are causing me major stress. I am requiring vaccines for attendance but with the risk of unvaccinated servers and vendors and children I am stressed.

Sydney, have you reached out to your vendors about their vaccine status? We required vaccinations for our June 2021 wedding celebration. I let my vendors know that we were making it an expectation of all of our guests, and all of them volunteered that they too (and their staff) would be vaccinated before our event as well.

Breakthrough infections were always going to happen, new variant or not. The majority of individuals suffering severe illness and hospitalization right now have not been vaccinated, so even if a fully vaccinated person does acquire the Delta variant there is still a level of protection. That is not to say that folks shouldn't take the variant seriously or that vaccines are a guarantee against serious illness, but the only reason Delta is so out of control is due to the unvaccinated population. Delta is most problematic in areas where high numbers of people have not been vaccinated (in states and countries with high vaccination rates, infections have remained low despite Delta making up the majority of infections), so if you and your guests are all getting vaccinated and living and working in communities where the vaccination rate is high, I would try not to stress too much!

Yes I have. I ended up firing my DJ bc they refuse to get vaccinated and they won’t give me a refund either. But I can’t guarantee servers, bartenders and security guards are vaccinated bc the vineyard still hasn’t hired those people. There is no labor in CA right now bc of unemployment so they are desperate for work so they will hire whoever they can get.

    Good for you!

Last I checked the American Rescue Plan's additional unemployment benefits were set to expire in September, so by October maybe there would be enough workers to be discretionary but that is certainly frustrating. Are you able to request that all event staff are masked? Obviously knowing everyone was fully vaccinated would be preferable, but at least masks would be a layer of protection vs nothing.

All of our servers wore masks despite being vaccinated (for many it was their first wedding since the pandemic started, so they were still being very cautious), and I told all of our vendors that we had no issue with anyone wearing masks if it made them feel more comfortable.

Our wedding is set for January 2022 and we aren't worried. I'm thinking the same as Nisha, there's always going to be a new strain like the flu, and I don't see our state shutting down anytime soon because of the Delta Variant.

I'm moderately worried. My date is next February in Los Angeles and we are planning on 200 or so guests. I feel a little better because we are requiring vaccines to attend but I don't know if that will be good enough for our venue. I think it depends on the location.

    Hi there!

October 2,2021 bride here! To be completely honest I’m not worried. I live in Ohio right outside of Cleveland. Our governor made a announcement a few days ago that he does not plan on reinstating a mask order - that this is more a matter of the unvaccinated. Unfortunately, that’s what viruses do… they mutate and create new variants. However, I don’t think this virus will ever be as bad as prevaccine. As we all know….the media likes to freak everybody out. Ugh! 🙄
Try not to worry to much !
