Deposit Before Contract

I really wanted to rent these King and Queen throne chairs but the vendor says the policy states you give a deposit first and then you'll receive the contract agreement. Really? Who does this? Is this legal? Anyone else have this experience. This place is the only renter in my area with these...

This place is the only renter in my area with these specific chairs that I wanted to use for my fairy tale/Cinderella theme wedding. This sucks!

Is the deposit refundable? If its justa place hoder while you look over the contract and fully refundable if you choose to not sign then I'd say it's ok. If it isn't then no way in Hell.

I wouldn't do it. Who ask someone to sign a contract then pay deposit. Sounds sketchy.

I wish I read this thread before I just paid the deposit on our photographer while he's sending the contract through the mail... Oops!

I requested quotes for chairs at 2 places and they attached contracts to it. Price sounds about right but I would pass

My venue required $1000 to save the date then a contract had to be signed within 30 days with anotber deposit...that was very nerve wrecking to me so i had them draw up the contract and send it over to me so i could look it over then send my STD money and still sign the contract in 30 days. Maybe they can draw up the contract for you on the same day so you can read it over first

Nope, contract to ensure you have everything in writing and what she is saying is indeed true.

Sketchy. Is this online or is this a store you can visit in person?

A contract is your protection. You shouldn't give them any money until you know the terms and conditions. They could definitely scam you.

I would just schedule a sit down meeting and ask them that the contract be drawn up at the meeting. My DJ and photographer requested the deposit first and then the contract. I asked for a face to face meeting and they were happy to do the contract right in front of me.

Every vendor I have booked had a contract written up and we both signed before I gave any money.

@ BeachBride yes communication has been only online. She mentioned the general area they're located but never provided the address. I'll try to see if I can meet face to face and have them show me the contract first and then do the deposit. If not, then I'm going to use these chairs instead.

Our florist asked for a deposit before the contract was signed, but we got a sample contract, it was only a $50 deposit, and I had an electronic contract complete with all my details within an hour.

No way I would put down a deposit without seeing a rental contract first! I've seen too many people get stuck with extra fees and really bad wording.

The chairs are amazing, but I would pass if you don't get a contract first. You would think it would all be done at the same time. Very odd policy.
