Design Inspiration - Old Train Station

the_legalista, on January 5, 2016 at 11:48 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

We are having a DW in Key West on 11/18/16. However, we are throwing a celebration party upon our return on 11/26/16.

We have booked our venue, which is an old train station with brick walls and basically a wide open area.

I'm having trouble coming up with a style/theme. Carrying over our beach wedding into this wouldn't work at all, I don't think. I'm completely open to color schemes and design ideas (whether we stick to traditional fall ideas or something out of the box). I will say that I'm not particularly into "rustic" style decor.

Any thoughts? I've been struggling for weeks.

Wow! What a cool venue! Where are you located? Can you tell me more about your beach weddings? I think some kind of overlap would be nice, if possible.

The_leagalista, your venue is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! WOWZA!!!! Do you need to have a theme or would you be comfortable working with just colors? IMO, the space is dramatic enough ... nothing else needed. Decide on a color theme for linens (this is where you tie in your beach wedding), do some uplighting, and candle centerpieces (perhaps in bowls of sand). BAM!!!!

    Stunning venue.

@Jessi, I'm located in WV, our venue is across the river in Ashland, KY. Our beach wedding is going to be very simple. Some white chairs, an archway with some white tulle.

Thank you all for your ideas. I was leaning toward some type of travel theme and I especially love the "where in the world are you sitting" seating chart LMac suggested.

I would like to have at least one color for pop to go with all of the neutrals. I've already purchased a ton of white linens though. So I'll need something for runners or overlays to bring in color.

Now I've got to figure out who is going to be brave and string the lights from the rafters. LOL

Are your table linens for round or rectangular tables?

@LMac, I went and bought about 20 boxes at Walmart right after Christmas. I figured I would use them in some way. That picture is gorgeous. That was sort of what I had in mind for the station.

And Nancy T, I've got 22 round tables available and 11 rectangle ones provided by my venue. Our guest list is at around 150. I plan to use 20 of those for guest seating and the cake table. I plan to use rectangles for the head table, the food, and the guestbook/gift table.

I love that venue! So much character.

There is an old out-of-use train station in Venice, FL and I've officiated a wedding there.
