I am making small 6” wedding cakes for each table centerpiece. They will sit on a wood slices and each have a small flower on top. They will all be different unique flavors. I am a pastry chef and make wedding cakes for a living so I known everybody will expect something over the top from me. We will also have a two tier cake for cutting.

I feel like everything we’re doing for the wedding is “us”. FH and I host about 3 parties per year and there’s always an evident theme using classy decor and rentals, etc (no cheapy Party City type of stuff). We go all out!! Among our circle of friends, it’s known that we throw parties. So, our wedding will be no different. It’s a destination wedding in Vegas, with lots of fun elements, entertainment and decor. What’s even better is that, since we postponed from 10/10/20 to 10/30/21, FH and I discussed starting a tradition of hosting anniversary parties since it’s near Halloween (and no one in our circle ever does anything fun for that “holiday”). So our postponement actually worked out in a better way than expected.

Love this and it’s perfect since you’re a pastry chef.

Our venue brings out “us”. We are getting married in a Victorian style home that is over 120 years old. The outside has a secret garden vibe with greenery everywhere. It’s also been converted into a bar so the atmosphere while unique is very relaxed. It’s a fun way to pay tribute to my FH love of nature and my obsession with historical romance. I’m honestly at a loss so far in reference to color scheme and decor because the venue doesn’t need much. It is beautiful on its own.

DH and I were pretty aggressive about making the wedding "ours".

It started with our invitations being themed around our favorite team (yay Etsy), and culminated in our now infamous wedding swordfight.

What helped a lot is that I am very much an xennial and do not understand Pinterest even a little. I have ... kind of? figured out Insta? I think? So, y'know, I'm bad at the whole influencer thing.

We did take inspiration from our friends' weddings, in terms of what we liked, what we felt made it about them, and what we didn't like. Anything we liked, we took and shaped to ourselves - centerpieces that used our favorite/team colors for flowers, but were stuck in foam half-baseballs. Table numbers that weren't linear, but were our favorite players for each position from our team.

I replaced the lacing on the back of my dress with a red ribbon, to evoke a baseball. Our cake had baseball stitching on it, AND comedy/tradedy masks. (The baker wanted to murder us, because this made no sense to them.)

Basically, when presented with the blank slate of a wedding, we just went with what we liked, and we didn't really care if it was cool or trendy or traditional or not. (DH sometimes got caught up on this, and then I'd look at him and say, "who cares what other people think? This is OUR wedding." And that helped him.)

Though, full credit to my dad about the swordfight. He may or may not have joked about it when I nearly married my Evil Ex (this was clearly a way for my father to attempt to get rid of said Ex). But the thing is that... well, DH and I love to swordfight. And it had stuck in my head as a fun thing to do.

So. Now I'm the bride with the swordfight.

    Sweet.
