Dessert table: do or dont??

Sare, on November 17, 2019 at 9:30 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 27
Hey all! So I’m in the middle of planning my August 2020 wedding and there’s something I’m definitely stuck on: dessert tables. I haven’t gone to many weddings so I don’t have experience in that, but are dessert tables typically set up? I know they are there for bridal showers and stuff but do weddings typically have them? We’re on a budget so I didn’t know if foregoing this will be seen as cheap or if most people don’t have it anyways? We will be having a cake but I meant for example cake pops, macarons, etc or is that just for bridal showers?
Thanks!

Most wedding do have dessert tables or candy buffet. With the vendors we've looked at also had s'mores bar or sundae bar.

We will be doing a "Sundae Party" by Ben & Jerry's since our venue does not serve desserts.

We’re only doing a wedding cake and a grooms cake. But no other desserts.

Some weddings do have them. Definitely not a necessity but you are able to have one. My fiance is a HUGE dessert fanatic so we will be going over options for a dessert table with our bakery. As of right now, we're thinking maybe something like brownies, lemon bars and cookies. Maybe a type of pastry or two.

I’ve never seen a dessert table at a wedding. Every wedding I’ve been to just had cake.

I would probably search for inspiration on Pinterest for wedding dessert tables and come up with some creative ideas that work within the budget.

I've seen candy bars and had one myself, but I've never seen dessert tables. I don't think they are necessary and you won't seem cheap if you don't have one.

We are just doing a cake and grooms cake. Without wedding favoring candy apples!

But I've been to weddings with a small 2 tier cake for bride and groom and mini cheese cakes and cobblers or brownie bars, to cookie bars and rootbeer float bars and macaron wedding favors. You should like what you get and go as elaborate or simple as you like! And I dont know if price really changes much. I've heard of the snack bar options being the same or more as a cake. Shop around and enjoy the taste testing 😉

We are doing a candy buffet with our cake being the centerpiece, candy apples, chocolate covered strawberries etc. It's our favor for the guests. I figured everybody has a sweet tooth. But it's not necessary. And who cares what ppl think. You can't satisfy everybody. Somebody always have something to say. Trust I live this life 😩. But do what's best for you and your budget.

My daughter had a two-tier cutting cake (which we had sliced and included) along with a dessert buffet. Mini-donuts, cake pops, assorted brownies, pastries, french macarons and whoopie pies. Here's some pictures...

My wedding is going to be a feast of good food and desserts. The venue provides 2 different desserts, but we'll also have 3 or 4 more options. I'm having a full dessert and a full candy bar. It'll be lots of dancing and drinks flowing I want my guests to be able to graze n mingle.

Daughter only had a wedding cake (which was delicious), and no other desserts. I think this is kind of a regional thing. We have family in NJ, and they have like 15 different desserts at a wedding. I think one advantage of just having cake (or any other one type of dessert) is that it's easier to order the "right amount" -- you just order the number of servings for the guests you'll have. We've been at weddings where there are multiple options and some guests literally took some of EVERYTHING, so their dessert plate was like an overflowing buffet plate. After cocktail hour and a full dinner, I don't see how they ate all that, so I think there is potentially a much bigger expense and a lot of waste when there are multiple options. Daughter's favors were two large chocolate chip cookies (daughter & SIL's favorite dessert) that were packaged in a cute way, so guests had the option of eating those for dessert if cake wasn't enough.

We are doing a dessert bar but my future sister-in-law's, my sister, my grandmother and future mother-in-law will be doing the baking for it. Our venue did not offer it, but is something my FH and I really want to do. We are setting up the table ourselves and our caterers have offered to help set out the items for us during our ceremony so everything is on the table by the time our guests walk into the reception.

I think a dessert table sounds awesome . Many people now a days forego a whole cake in favor of a dessert table with a variety

We're killing two birds with one stone and doing a dessert table as our favors. We're having a cupcakes, cookies, bars, and macaroons. Figured people would enjoy the variety and we won't be left over with a bunch of favors people left behind.

Not everyone wants a traditional wedding cake (like us), so we're having a dessert table for our guests.

We will choose a baker to prepare all the desserts, and hopefully come and set them up at the venue.

We are not doing a cake - we're having a dessert table with cupcakes, cookies, whoopie pies, etc. Our planner said cake just goes to waste. I'd like for my guests have a variety, especially since we're not really having a lot of people (80-90, and LOTS of kids).

We did a wedding cake as well as a dessert table. It is not required though.
