Dessert Tables - Covid-19

Marissa, on June 2, 2020 at 6:58 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Hey! I'm starting to research different bakeries and decide what kind of cake/desserts I want at my wedding. I'm wondering how do dessert tables usually work? Is it like a buffet where guests go up and fill up a plate? If so, how would this work now with COVID-19? Would it be sanitary to even have a dessert table displayed with a bunch of food out the whole day? Or would we just switch over to plated desserts like for plated meals at dinner? What if the guests only want a slice of cake and not cookies or brownies (for example)? Any tips or advice would be great! Thanks all!!

The other thing you could do is have a server there to serve guests what they'd want so that they aren't the ones touching it themselves

Last year my brother-in-law and his wife did a donut table for their wedding and the guests had to get their own donuts. With Covid, something like that I don't think would work. You want to avoid guests touching food so having them grab their own food would definitely be a bad idea. A server or plated are the only two options I could see being a valid option at this point. You could put a dessert option on your reply cards if you wanted that way you knew what desserts guests would want. While it is nice to offer different desserts, I don't think it is practical right now to have any type of dessert tables or buffets. I would probably just serve one type of dessert to everyone because I think it would be too stressful trying to figure a way to handle serving different types of desserts.

Generally dessert tables come with the caterer, and the cake is separate. As everyone has said, though, with COVID, I'd either skip it or get a server.

You could also try doing smaller plates of various options delivered to each table, if the venue will let you. Then only the people at that table are taking off that plate. And you can also have servers serve from these small plates so you don't have people breathing over buffet table.

I would do assorted dinner plates on the tables sort of like family style put some cookies, few slices of cakes, brownies etc. This way its delivered to the table and whoever wants can take if not you aren't buying and trying to have a slice per person because with Covid we all have either gained weight and will be on diets or just starting back in gyms and working on our bodies (lol)

We're having our wedding at our house in October, so I'm planning on individually wrapping my homemade desserts for our dessert bar.
