Dessert

Lauren, on July 20, 2019 at 9:39 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18
What are you doing for dessert that isn't cake, or cupcakes?
We had a fun and unique idea for our desserts, but no bakery can do it. :/ And we have too much going on to do it ourselves.

Our idea was:
We found out our parents favorite dessert.
Then we turned those desserts into a "parfait-type" dessert.
One was turtle cheesecake, so we would just layer graham cracker crust, cheesecake, and tutle toppings in a cup.
Another was banana pudding and nilla wafers, again..we would layer those two things in a cup.

Anyway, that's not working, so looking for another option!

In addition to cake I'm dead set on having apple pie made by a nearby orchard.

My fiancé and I are both cake haters! We decided there’s no sense in being traditional with the cake when we won’t even enjoy it ourselves. We are bouncing back and forth between doing an ice cream Sunday bar and a hot cocoa bar since it’s a fall wedding!

We hate cake as well! Lol.
My mom is trying to say "you arent the only one there. Many others like cake"
To which I respond, "it's my reception though, they get desserts WE like." 🤣😂

I would love an ice cream bar, but that's just not feasible in our venue. Not enough freezer space and dont want to rent a freezer truck

My fiance and I are from Detroit but spent the first three years we lived together in Pittsburgh. We want to bring the Pittsburgh wedding tradition of a cookie table to Michigan. We're not big dessert people anyways but people are already freaking out about the lack of cake omg. I bet there would be a caterer that could do parfaits for you. Try local wedding and event pages. I bet there's a home caterer that would do it in a heartbeat. Parfaits are so easy.

Agreed there’s gotta be a local caterer or bakery that can do parfaits! I’d look around more before you rule that out of its what you want!!
We were going to do just cake but we may try to find someone who can make semi-affordable French macarons as we both love Paris and met in a French class.

This seems so crazy that no one will do this, it seems pretty simple maybe time consuming with the layers but not unreasonable. Have you looked into an culinary schools or colleges? I mean I know they aren't professionals yet, I feel they might be more open to making new unique things.

No I havent looked into that.
Honestly, we are less than 2 months away from the reception. So at this point I'm just over trying to look for people to do this. And repeating the idea millions of times to different people. Lol.

I'll probably just do a cookie or pie table. Idk. Something more simple that more bakeries already can do with little effort.

We had 3 different mini desserts. A chocolate and espresso torte, an apple crostada, and butter cake with berries.

Different flavors of pie seem like a good alternative!

We had a berry shortcake bar. Self-serve with shortcake biscuits, fresh whipped cream, and a variety of fresh berry options.

If your venue can't do it, the challenge with an outside bakery would be refrigeration - cheesecake and pudding desserts should be refrigerated, and many catering venues will not make space for 'outside' desserts in their coolers.

We did a dessert buffet at my daughter's wedding. Included were mini-donuts, mini-whoopie pies, french macarons (dyed to match the colors of the wedding!) rugelah danish, mini-brownies, and Superman cake pops (my son-in-law loves Superman!). We also included slices of the smaller two-tier cutting cake they had - chocolate/peanut butter.

We had a Norwegian Kransekake cake. We served the Rommegrot pudding as well! Plus brownies! Our reception was a luncheon so it was bit less formal.

We are doing an assortment of individually sized tartlets, like fresh fruit, lemon, chocolate cream and coconut cream. My FH's hates hates most sweets except sour candy, so we are also doing a sour candy bar.
