Destination Compromise

Hey ladies!

I have always wanted a wedding in the mountains and/ or with fall colors. My initial plan was to get married in the Rockies but some of my soon to be in laws don’t fly so we decided on the Smokies. Has anyone here gotten married or plans on getting married in either of these places or something similar? I don’t want to give up my dream wedding but I also don’t want people to not be able to come because of traveling.
Thanks in advance!

We’re getting married in Vegas and the mountains and canyons are beautiful. I’m getting married in April 2021 but still doing fall colors because it’s beautiful. We have family from all over and some may not be able to attend because of travel but they’ll be cheering us on from a far. It’s your special day and there will be plenty of events that will bring you all together again (like when we start having kids). So have your dream wedding. 🥰

We’re getting married in the Tetons in Wyoming. My FH’s family is from Florida and most of my family is in Wyoming/South Dakota/Montana. FH has a small family and a majority of them will be coming mostly because we planned our wedding two years out from our engagement (June 2021) and that gives them a lot of time to plan. I decided on a mountain wedding before we were even engaged and I wouldn’t have given up on that unless a huge majority of our families weren’t going to be able to make it. The ones who can’t be there are mostly elderly family members and we completely understand that they don’t like to travel far away from home. I definitely agree with the above comment; it’s your special day and those who can’t be there will still be cheering you on from afar! Have that dream wedding!

That’s why I keep telling myself but my fiancé’s grandma has never flown and she never wants to. I don’t have any living grandparents and my fiancé does and I know him and then would be absolutely crushed if they couldn’t be there.

It’s so hard to choose to have it close or far. I don’t want to give up on my dream wedding but I also don’t want to make my future in laws angry because it will definitely get to them. We want to keep the actual wedding small around 20 people including bridal party and officiant but it’s getting harder and harder to choose a place that everyone can go to.

I totally get that! I kind of second guessed myself when we were first starting to plan because I knew it would start to get expensive for our out of town guests. But we talked to his family before booking anything and they were all really excited for us to have it in the mountains and were willing to do what they could to be here. Thankfully they were all really understanding. There’s just no way you can plan your wedding around everyone or make it easy for everyone. 🙁 I really think your in-laws should be supportive no matter where you choose to have it because it’s your day. I am blessed with wonderful, supportive in-laws so I guess I don’t have a whole lot of good advice except for just try to talk to them. Sorry I’m not a lot of help! 😕
