Destination Save the Date wording. HELP!

Future Mrs.Hall, on July 20, 2014 at 9:12 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 12

My FH and i decided to have a cruise destination wedding in Freeport Bahamas. We are leaving from Maryland which is in driving distance to everyone we are inviting. Were leaving October 11 2015 and getting back October 18 2015 Getting married the 16th. We are asking as many people to join us on the cruise as possible, aware quite a few will not be able to make it since its a week long and all guests are expected to pay their own way. To save on money we are making our own Save the Dates.. We are choosing an island background and using GROOVEBOOK to print out the photos with the wording on it. Then mailing a detailed invite along with the STD. We arent sure how to word the STD, any feedback is greatly appreciated Smiley smile Thank you all in advance !!

Here are 3 Examples of ones we made just an idea of what were thinking

I'd try to keep it simple and clear and leave the clever phrases off. Because its a week-long event, there is a bit more information that should be inclduded than usual.

Something like "Save the Date-- Mark and Sheena are getting married!" "Join us for a beautiful cruise from Baltimore to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. 10/11/15 to 10/18/15. Formal invitation to follow. Please see WEBADDRESS for details."

I like the last one but would also add what you wrote on #2 where they can get additional details on everything and that formal invite will follow.Often times with DW you need time to make sure you can get the time off and also that their passports are in order

Have you created a wedding website that people can go to learn more? On the back of the STD postcard I included a little message along with our wedding website. It really helped!

This is a destination wedding so your guests need as much information as possible. This means you need a two sided STD. None off these works for you.

What's your budget? There are many good options for you and you can get very creative.

If you need extra help designing your "save the date" go to http://www.fiverr.com/ you can get a professional to do it for $5. I have a great graphic designer, get in touch and ask for a quote. His link is below. As soon as we settle on our date i'll be sending him a msg. Good luck Smiley smile

I am not familiar with groovebook - do these send out like postcards? or do they go in envelopes? We have ALOT of OOT guests - so i guess you could say that our wedding is a destination wedding (without the beaches) so we are including a small business card with our wedding website info (and for us, hotel block info too) in with all of the save the dates when we send them out (the postcards will also give our wedding website too).

I think that it is SUPER for your save the dates to give more information rather than cute glitz and glam (i do love them though!)

I went to Vistaprint it was super cheap. In all honesty I dont care for any of these. I would use solid colors with maybe a picture of you? because this looks too busy and is hard to read. I made magnets with the website info on the bottom(in a decent font) and people still missed that the website was there. Make a website and make sure that it is visible to everyone.

Future Mrs. Matthews - How did you make your own magnets?

I have liked the magnet idea best for STD. There are plenty of places that do it and are pretty inexpensive. And, yes include the wedding website clearly as that is where they will be getting most of their information for planning.
