How long in advance would you send save the dates for a destination wedding ? We are thinking about doing aruba and traveling there from New Jersey! We do have a date of October 26 2024 picked out!

We're getting married Oct 14, 2023 in Mexico. We sent our Save the dates out 14 months in advance because there is a large chunk of our friends who wanted to take advantage of the payment plan option. About 27 people booked within the first two weeks (those mentioned above). We are sending our actual invites 3 months out. I think most destination wedding sites suggest sending save the dates 8-12 months in advance, though!

We sent out save the dates approximately 10.5 months out. I would recommend booking your venue prior to sending save the dates in case you find that something needs to change (date and/or location) in order to make your dreams possible

For an international destination wedding, I would send save the dates 12 months in advance

Don’t send save the dates until:
You pass one year before your date
You have your venue bookedYou have your guestlist finalized
Those are all essentials! For a destination wedding I think a save the date as early as just under a year before is fine (10-12 months) so people have time to plan. Anything earlier and it may cause some confusion or something may change on the planning side.

My FSIL actually got married destination, and she used DestinationWeddings.com, so that's what I did too! Her specific agent, Amy, I used, as did SEVEN of her friends! It's' been incredibly easy and the way it works:

Your agent helps you find a resort based on your needs/wants. Once that's done, the guests go to your website on destinationweddings (you get one once you book any resort with your agent) and they book there DIRECTLY! They have to book a room to rsvp, so you won't have any flakes, and it only costs $100 to reserve their room. They can make as many payments as they want on their invoice as long as the room is paid 60 days before your wedding.

    Also, it's free Smiley smile

Also, in response to everyone else's comments: definitely have your wedding date booked and make sure your vendors are available/booked before you send out save the dates.

I had my guest list finalized, photographer and venue booked before I sent them out!
