Destination Wedding Cost

Hunter, on July 17, 2022 at 4:00 PM Posted in Planning 2 16
Hey guys! I would love some high level cost details from anyone who recently had or is currently planning a DW in Mexico. My planner sent over a few options but I am blown away by the proposed cost. ($75-$100k for 100 guest) I always thought DW cost a significant amount less.

Well everything is super expensive currently it seems (wedding sticker shock is bonkers). I think the reason destination weddings often seem cheaper is because many times the guests list are under 50 people. Keep looking though you can probably find something cheaper, best of luck!

Destination wedding costs can vary significantly depending on the location and what all is included in the package. For example, if this includes yours and guests’ travel and accommodation expenses, I would say that is insanely cheap! I would request a breakdown of the proposal, then you can determine if the prices for each item are average for the area.

I’m planning a destination wedding currently. A lot fewer people, however (30) but that price seems on par if I’d had 100 I think. I always thought DW cost more…

I’ve had the same experience. We are planning a destination wedding, and we are spending over 40k for 30 people. So that would be a little over 133K for 100; so right in-line with OP’s proposal.

I’m spending a little over $30k for 50 people in Hawaii. Not including air fare or accommodations.

Another thing to consider is that November is prime tourist season in Mexico and rates all around are more expensive then. Also, there is the added cost of hosting welcome dinners, etc. for guests traveling to DWs.

We are also planning a destination wedding and saw similar price points for the Caribbean. It appears most places don’t care how big or small your wedding is, they will charge you the same minimum. With that being said, we found the minimums to be drastically lower for a Monday wedding. People will end up taking the same amount of PTO regardless if we did a wedding on Fri, Sat or Sun. Plus flights and hotel prices are little lower. Recommend a Monday wedding if you aren’t tied to a weekend day.

We are doing a destination wedding in Las Vegas this August with about 45 people and we are looking at around $45,000 when we are all done. That is with rehearsal dinner and a few other extras. I found that the packages for destination wedding up front seemed much more reasonable but then all of the add ons made it quickly become more expensive.

Thank you all for your responses! I feel a lot better now! Seems destination is not drastically less than the local wedding! I think we will stick to our original plan and say “I Do” here in Texas! Thanks again!

Hunter - I see i'm late on this post but I really wanted to share this. We almost didn't do our dream destination wedding because we couldn't find sh** on our own that was in our budget!

I'm getting married next October in Cancun, MX and hopefully this will help:

-20k for 84 people, BUT we outsourced for photography, videography, and DJ. You do have to pay $600 a pop for outside vendors, and obviously outside vendors will be a lot more expensive than in house. That's worth it to me. $1,800 in fees, and if you don't want a videographer we're paying $2,600 for that. So without those two things, we would have paid closer to $16k.

-The cheapest we found was 11k.

-Book through DestinationWeddings.com. Me, my sister in law, and 4 of her friends have all used the same woman through DW and she makes the process SEAMLESS. If you shoot me a message I'll give you her details, she doesn't cost a DIME! We told her what we wanted, what our budget was, and she found 15+ resorts that we could choose from.

-I'm from Texas, and for what we wanted I think we would've spent closer to 35k for what we are getting in Mexico.

Through Destination Weddings you get a free room for every 10 people who book. So if you get 10 free rooms, your honeymoon is free. There's all kinds of great deals like that out there, you just need someone to guide you!

As a guest I would be very turned off to know that not only was I being asked to spend extra money and time to attend a destination wedding but that costs were intentionally being shifted to me for to the couple's advantage.
