We are planning on having our wedding at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico that my fiancé, bridal party, and parents on both sides all love. The resort requires 90% of guests to stay at the resort in order to hold a wedding there. While we already confirmed with the aforementioned groups that the requirement wouldn't be an issue, we're trying to figure out how to word the requirement on the invitations for our other guests. If more people RSVP, we can allow more couples to stay off the resort. So we're thinking of being quite blunt on the invitations and say that staying at this resort is required, and then have our friends/family reach out to us if that's an issue and we go from there. Is this a good way of going about this issue?

    Hi Alexis!
I'm in the exact same position as you for our wedding in April 2022 in Mexico at an all inclusive resort. Was wondering what you ended up doing or how you ended up wording things on your website/invite?

These weddings mean the guests are actually paying for the wedding. Unless you invite guests and pay for the rooms/all inclusive fees yourself, the guests are paying for your wedding. Also, the guests who do not stay at the resort (once you reach 90%) will most likely be charged a 'resort fee' to attend your wedding which is about $150/200 a person per day. So, if a family is at a different resort and you invite the adult couple to the Thursday, Friday and Saturday event, they will be charged $900 to $1200 to attend your wedding not including the child friendly resort they will be staying at. The majority of people who want to celebrate with you and have time/money will not mind helping you. Also, many of the adult only locations have a certain element that may offend some guests. Anyone with children will most likely not leave them at another resort to attend your wedding. I'm guessing you don't have children and may not realize what an unusual expectation this would be to leave small children in a foreign country.
