Destination Wedding- Hair & Makeup Trials

FutureMrsR-M, on March 26, 2018 at 1:08 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10
Has anyone gone through the process of looking for hair & makeup artists and doing trials with them for a destination wedding? I could probably have my sister do it or even myself if I really had to, but my hair is hard to deal with. I'm hoping to hire professionals for both of these, but I don't know if I'll be able to meet anyone in person/do trials before the wedding. Any advice? (The wedding is going to be in San Andres Cholula, Puebla, Mexico, so not one of the popular DW locations.)

You could bring a HMUA with you! My hair guy goes to destination weddings often.

Will this be at a resort? Would anyone at your venue know the preferred hair and makeup artists that most brides use there?

I'm doing a destination wedding as well, but I did a lot of research online for the best reviews in that area. My Wedding Planner recommended the person I finally chose so I felt confident in my decision.

You need to ask the locals, as they usually know best Smiley smile

Honestly I'm just looking at reviews and rolling the dice. I want very minimal makeup and simple curls for hair, so I'm not too worried.

I am having a DW in North Carolina and I live in CT. I am completely trusting photos and reviews and not having a trial.

Just make sure to read the reviews! My wedding is going to be in Jamaica this year, so I am in the same boat. I have been in contact with a HMUA and she has been great with communication. I asked for photos of work she had done that reflected the style I was looking for, and also requested photos of brides she had done with similar skin tone (I am VERY fair, so I want to make sure to not look like a clown. LOL). Communication is key; if they are not responsive to you, making you feel good about your choice, and understanding about the pressures of choosing without trials, then you should move on! Good luck!

My planner recommended 4-5 salons and I picked based on reviews/photos and also proximity to our hotel. Our ceremony is Monday, but we're flying in Thursday so I set up a trial for Saturday to work out any kinks

I may go down and have a trial with mine, but I hired a woman who does hair and makeup for TV and movies, so I am confident she'll be able to handle anything. LOL

No it won’t be at a resort. The wedding with be about 2 hours outside of Mexico City, so I think I can probably find something, I’ll probbaly ask on the Mexican WW forum as well. Definitely gonna ask the locals.

Cholula is amazing! Great choice! It is sooo beautiful. I am going to Cardiff a few weeks before the wedding, so we'll do all the tastings/ trials then.
