Destination wedding planners

Gabrielle, on September 17, 2021 at 9:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
For those that have done destination weddings. Have you found it more helpful to use a basic planner (such as through destinationweddings.com or a private more expensive planner more familiar with the area). Personally I am leaning toward the private because they are familiar with the area, weather, and venues and may have good working relationships to get better rates. Excited to hear of your experiences and what to do/not do.

We’re in the early stages of planning, but the first thing we did was hire a planner that is local to the area we are getting married. I was really looking for someone who has all the local expertise and relationships with vendors, and can manage all those vendors for me so I don’t have to chase anyone around.

That is the same boat we are in. Just beginning to plan but with wanting to get married in another country I am so out of my element. And I was working with a coordinator through a wedding site but she is not from that area, she is from a few states over from us which makes me weary.

Our destination wedding (elopement) is in Hawaii. So we hired a reputable planning company in Oahu. Having an experienced wedding planner who is local to the area is best. They can answer your questions, lead you in the right direction and provide solid recommendations.

Does this person specialize in that area? If they’ve planned a lot of weddings in that location and spends time there then I’d be open to it. I know that some people say that once you have experience planning events you can do it anywhere, but I was specifically looking for local expertise when hiring someone. I wanted someone who had eaten the food from different caterers and could tell us who is best, etc.

That’s exactly what I am looking for as well. What is an average cost for a wedding planner doing destination wedding?
