Destination Wedding question!

Tori, on May 3, 2022 at 7:31 AM Posted in Planning 9 5
Hello everyone. I have recently decided to cancel my big, traditional, local wedding and want to change it to a tropical destination wedding. My fiancé and I have chosen this for multiple reasons, the largest one being the financial burden of a huge wedding. I’m reaching out to other brides who have done something similar and want to know if there is any good feedback.
What did you love most about your destination wedding?
Was there anything you regretted about having a destination wedding? And if anyone has any good suggestions/resorts that they want to recommend, I am open to it! Thank you all so much! I hope this was the right decision.

Mine is set to happen in Italy this September, so I can't fully speak to how it goes and what I regret, but here are some of my takeaways so far:

    - Love that we're able to do something more intimate with a smaller guest list. If we had our wedding here, we'd feel more forced to invite a lot of extended family friends, my FH's old church contacts, etc. We did have to invite some people out of obligation per our parents' desires, but most of them declined and only our closest friends and family are putting the time, effort, and money into coming out.

    - 95% of our friends and family are SO stoked about our wedding and every time we see them, they're so excited to tell us about all their Italy vacation planning. We love that our wedding has been an excuse for people to plan this fun vacation.

    - I've vacationed a few times with my FH's family, but we haven't had the opportunity to do the same with my family. This will be the first time that both our families and us will be together in a vacation setting, and we're really looking forward to sharing this experience with them.

    - A couple of friends and family who we thought would certainly make it have let us know that they aren't able to, and that was definitely sad to accept but we had prepared ourselves for this to happen.

    - If you are a detail-oriented person, you'll find that there are a lot of little details to manage and it will be really challenging to do overseas. It's possible, and I booked a number of vendors on my own, but ultimately found that hiring a wedding planner was necessary to help me do everything I wanted and eliminate some of my stress.

You'll have a blast, and guests who are able to make it will have fun making a vacation out of it!

I'm late to this post, but we decided to do destination and here's what I love so far

    - We physically cannot wait for before and after the wedding, and of course the wedding itself. One of the huge perks of a destination is that you get to party your wagon off with your closest friends AND family. This makes your wedding seem like it's more than 1 day long!

-Incredible locations. Very little decor needed, just florals!

-PRICING. My god, we are getting SO much for what we are paying for?! Through DestinationWeddings and our resort, we are going to end up getting $4,187 off our wedding package. I can give a breakdown of the wedding cost if anyone is interested

-THE HONEYMOON. Because we are getting so much money off of our package, our honeymoon for 11 days is going to cost us $1,000. Simple

-Lack of pressure. It will be a smaller wedding than what we would have had locally, of course, and that is going to allow us for so much more interaction time with our guests

-All inclusive. Nobody has to pay for drinks or food. It's unlimited. End of story lol

My parents did the same thing. They did a little destination wedding and invited their parents and siblings only. After a few weeks they then went to a public beach in MI and had a BBQ beach reception. People to this day still talk about how amazing and fun it was.
