Destination Wedding -small Ceremony Large Party Later

Stacey, on May 3, 2021 at 6:36 AM Posted in Planning 1 5
My fiancé and I are planning a wedding in Greece. Specifically it’ll be a small ceremony (parents and siblings and their plus ones) and a dinner. We want to keep it simple because if we try to expand the list to aunts and uncles and cousins and their spouses it’ll easily get to 50 plus people, raising the cost on top of figuring out travel logistics, etc. To make up for a small ceremony we plan to have a large “celebration of marriage” party a few months later with all friends and family invited. My question is - would this set up be offensive to anyone? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

Some people will get offended at anything, but this is perfectly within etiquette. Most people will understand the destination part is small and be excited to be part of the local reception.

I think this is completely fine! Maybe offer to livestream for extended family members and friends who would like to watch the ceremony from home!

I agree with Nicole - a few people may have ruffled feathers, but this is completely within etiquette and totally your call!

Having a big party for everyone afterwards is the perfect way to include them in the celebration. ❤️

Thank you for your kind responses! I was worried, but it’s reassuring to hear it’s well within etiquette. Hopefully the party after will help with the “ruffled feathers,” so to speak.
