Destination wedding trial?

Lauren, on January 30, 2020 at 3:09 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8

I am having a destination wedding this coming September. I am debating if I should do a trial run for my hair and makeup. I know I want to do airbrush makeup since I loved it in the past and it would hold up with sweat, humidity and possible heat. My friend recommended her hair stylist in the area who has excellent reviews on every site including wedding websites. I am trying to figure out if I should do at least a makeup trial before the wedding. That would be worst case scenario to not love it on my actual wedding day. The only thing is I would need to make a special trip there or do the trial a couple days before the wedding when we arrive. What are your thoughts? What would you do?

If it's in your budget, I would make a trip to go out there for a trial. Otherwise, I would still have one when you arrive a couple of days before the wedding. That way if something goes wrong, it's not the day of and she's rushing around to fix things.

If it's in budget, I'd do another trip up there. Then you can also do things like catering tastings, venue walk through, see blocked hotels, etc.

I think it depends on what sort of destination you are talking about. If your venue is a few hours from where you live and you can do the trial as part of a day trip, I'd go for it, but if visiting the destination required flights, hotel stays, or days off of work it probably wouldn't be worth the time and expense for me. Weddings are expensive enough without adding in various back and forth visits to a far off destination just to "get ready" for the day itself, IMO.

That's me though. If you have the resources available and it's important to you that everything is perfect on your big day, it's probably going to be worth the trip for you. Especially if hair/makeup is something you will stress about if you don't end up doing a trial.

Is the destination far from you? I asked because even if you do a hair and makeup trial 2 days before what if you don't like it? I know for me when at one point we were considering a destination elopement I was going to actually have a makeup artist show me how to do makeup and I was thinking to ask my hairdresser to show me how to do a very simple style in the salon to do it myself. I would definitely suggest maybe do the hair and makeup trial a couple of days before so that way if the style does not work out then you can have a back-up plan. I have seen Brides get their hair done the day before and not do a trial and then not like their hair.

It would be a plane ride or 11 hour drive! It’s an extra expense so trying to figure things out!

Yea for me that would be an added expense and probably not something I would do, but it really depends on how important those details are you to you as well as what your budget allows. If you can combine other wedding errands (like tastings or meeting with other vendors) and visiting your friend into that one trip it might be worth it. Only you can decide!

Were going to Montana for our wedding and we already have a bunch of things to do when we go do our marrage license. So I was planning on doing it the day before earlier in the day and wear it through out the day and then during the dinner. I don't care if the family sees my hair and makeup look before the wedding. I'm not sure if that's something you would like to do
